Backgrounds going dark
on:
March 30, 2025, 05:41:57 PM
I looked at the 30-day challenges for 2025 list a few moments ago. As I usually do, I went to the first unread post first. The background had gone dark! It seemed to have darkened at a post that got a user the boot. I don't know what causes this. What I do know is that I find posts so darkened unduly hard to read. Does anyone have any feedback or insight into this situation?

not sure I understand what is happening, can you grab a screenshot? which web browser are you using?

Just for feedback purposes: I haven't noticed any differences. Microsoft Edge displays that page normally, and also my Android phone. No darkening with them. Best wishes. G

can you grab a screenshot?
Let's give it a whirl.

Note that the message at the top of the screenshot is on a light background, while the one below it has a darker background. Every subsequent message has the darker background. I'm using Chrome for Android, and I use the ShelfLife theme when logged in. The darkening effect doesn't happen when I use the default forum theme.

That's very helpful, looks like there's no alternative colour set for mobile, and it's going to dark theme trying to match mobile I think. I'll have a look, it's likely a poorly closed div due to the deleted user not having full profile

not having any luck isolating what is going wrong, but I can see where it goes wrong.
for me the fix is to select desktop version in chrome on my android tablet in chrome and it's fixed.
best I can offer for now, or switch to default theme, we stopped maintaining shelflife long ago

I'll probably be the last MTo'er hanging on to ShelfLife, purely out of familiarity. But I'll try out the other themes and see how I get along with them. Thanks for looking into this!

We're two of the 30-35 still using that theme!

I couldn't get the newer white them to work, hence sticking with the old one - now we are on the 'dark side'

Is this still happening? I can't reproduce on desktop or my phone anymore.

Checked the thread in question a few minutes ago, and it's still happening for me.
