UK Based Multitool
on: April 04, 2025, 07:59:32 PM
So, I'm moving house in the next few months and will need to get an oscillating multi tool.

I want a cordless type and awlready have a Stanley Fatmax V20 SDS hammer drill (so battery compatibility would be good)

It's not vital that it works with the Stanley thing (just a bonus) but it MUST be cordless.

FYI It will be used a few times, not for professional use.

Any recommendations would be gratefully recieved  :salute:

Here's the type of thing I'm talking about...

If your not planning use it much i would suggest to rent it, obviously it doesnt work if your planning to use it more than few days.

I had considered renting but the "Dept' of Good Ideas" has suggested that there may be "multiple uses" required.

I'm looking at occasional use but probably needing to keep it.

Maybe best bet is then buy that Stanley since you allready have battery for it, you could also try search good used ones too. I have used at work Bosch, Makita and Hilti, i tho liked those but when needed constantly battery powered were much worse option since it weighted and prolong use upwards was worsening it.

I've tried a few, owned (and abused to death) even fewer, and currently have the lone survivor Bosch GOP55-36 Starlock Max. It is not battery driven, and that was by conscious choice. It is more powerful by a mile compared to the others I've owned and used (which were all battery - might be a connection), and it makes short work of stuff that with the others would be time consuming. I would buy it again.

The Starlock system, which many manufacturers use, has the ability for you to change blades without having to touch the used and often hot blade. I've come to appreciate that.

Edit: StarlockMax also have some quite long blades available. I've cut badly placed 2" x 4" which my other ones would be too short to do.

I'd say the Stanley one would be fine for light/occasional use. I have a corded Skil, and it's maybe been used a dozen times in 5 years.

Appears that they are basically just yellow versions of what we get over here as Craftsman V20. Not the greatest (especially the budget non-brushed models--my Sawzall is weak compared to the 18V DeWalt it replaced), but they get the job done.   Wondering if they have an equivalent "Brushless RP" as SBD sells as Craftsman over here.

What's your budget?

If you wanna stick with Stanley, then a second hand one without battery would be something to search for and probably an adorable option.

What are you gonna use it for? I bought one as part of a set 4 years ago and have yet to use it.

Sorry for the slack response (REALLY busy at work) I've had a look and this will probably be the way forward. Thanks for your suggestion  :tu: :salute:
