Canon Elan 7 NE.
on: April 28, 2025, 12:53:01 PM
I did end up buying the 35mm film camera of my dreams. Well, I wanted one so bad when this model first came out, but by that time, I was mostly all into digital cameras. Anyhow, meet the Elan 7 NE, Canon's last produced 35mm film camera which was discontinued in 2018. It came with a Sigma lens that was not made for a full frame camera. Probably why nobody picked it up as the lens did not match the film size. That Sigma should work on my APS-C digital cameras with no issues. I placed a Canon 100-300mm lens that will do full frame so no more vignetting in the viewfinder. I have an EOS AE2 which was Canon's first eye control camera. The E designation on this camera also denotes eye control. Eye control allows the photographer to select a focus point simply by looking at it. When it works, it is very cool. So now I have a pair of film cameras with that feature.

I was going to leave it there, but figured remorse would set in sooner than later.

FOMO is justified in that case. Great find! :tu: I didn't think Canon (or any camera manufacturer) produced a 35mm camera so recently.

Oh man. I was digging into my camera gear cabinet and found a Canon Elan 7 that I had bought but forgot about. Talk about first world problems. The 7ne was the last of that line and has all the bells and whistles, even tough the Elan 7 is still a very nice film camera.
