Two samples of SAK-A-Alikes. One even has my name on it, and it was a gift from a couple grandkids that know my likes 🌹😎.  (Wine!😜)
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 1

Gerber Armbar Slim Drive

I had bought something else (SAK) on the ‘bay, but this arrived instead.  Contacted seller, who refunded.  I asked if he wanted the Armbar back, but he said he didn’t. So, ended up with this one for free by accident.

Day 1

Seeing some cool options here. I have a couple Aitors, and they seem like pretty nice little multis. Don't think I've ever seen someone carry one long term, so excited to see the review. I carried a T4 last time we did this badge a year or so ago. Wasn't really impressed with it, so curious to see others opinions. Old fashioned scout knives are awlways a pleasure. I'm hoping we get a third generation of Armbars. They seem to be slowly improving with each one. Gordon, playing the daredevil with the knockoffiest knockoffs, we'll see how they hold up.

For me, I've been wanting to carry this GEC Johnny on the Spot for a while, so here we go.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

When I first heard about it, I thought someone had resurrected the legendary  Toilet Paper SAK. At least around here, "Johnny on the Spot" means port-a-potty more so than the prepared person meaning it apparently has to some people.

AFAIK this is the only design GEC has ever put out for this model. 3.75" closed, black "texdel" textured delrin handles, lightning bolt shield, drop point (2.65" carbon steel with a lovely swedge), can opener, bottle opener, flat driver, and a 1/4 hex cutout.

They're obviously channeling the old Kamp Kings here (and I'll probably pose it with one on a slow day later this month) especially with that black textured delrin. They did a very good job, feels even better than it looks. (I wouldn't have said no to a classier material, but I appreciate the tribute.) The hex driver isn't entirely ahistorical, I have seen pictures of some mid century scout patterns with them (though I can't find any now). The lack of awl is a bit disappointing. At the end of the day, it's a boutique scout knife. It's beautiful, but you'd be hard pressed to find a good reason to pay the ~$180 MSRP (I think they still have one at the factory store) or higher ebay prices when you could just buy a Pioneer for ~1/3 the price, or a Rough Ryder/Marbles scout for even less. We'll see how it stacks up this month.

Day 1: Something kinda close to a Spartan/Standard--no pen blade or scale tools.

Pried apart a weed eater head, cut some string, and opened filament.

I honestly can't tell you who makes this one. It's got "US General" printed on the scale, and "STAINLESS STEEL ITALY" stamped on the tang. Middle quality.

I got it in a POS Exchange another forum does earlier this year.

I've been printing way too many horses..... My preferred scale is close to Schleich (1:20, G-Scale), maybe a bit bigger (say 1:16). Small sizes--don't display detail too well. These two run a little smaller--and were how my slicer imported the files by default.

Big ones--never turn out right and can take all day. My Flashforge Adventurer 5M can make a horse about 9" from head to tail--but it's gone wrong every time I tried.

Day 1
Small Ruike opened some hot dogs for dinner.  The package said it was easy  pull open, but after trying, I decided cutting would be easier and it was.  The cutter was easier.

Starting out strong folks!!

Day 1

Last time I did this challenge I did it with my Voss Cutlery SAK-A-Like.  I've tried searching on the web for more info, but nothing turned up.  I picked this one up from the Surprise Box GAW.

This one has a blade, a file, a large flat head, an awl, a semblance of a corkscrew/drill bit, a wrench, and a small hammering surface.

Used it today to remove some large staples from a picture frame and to start a hole for the anchor.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

I can say from first-hand experience that the claw-style can opener makes a suitable awl, should you need one.

Overall, I tend to agree with your assessment that while it is a well-made knife, it would be tough to justify the price for a user vs. other options.

Regardless, I’m sure mine will make an appearance before the end of this challenge!

We are off to a great start! :2tu:

Day 1

Though this promises to be a busy month for me, I'm not about to bow out. This Swiza (a D01, if I'm correct) will be my primary carrier for the month. I haven't had a good chance to really put it through its paces, so I'm looking forward to doing so.

How about some KampKing photos?  These medium and large KKs sold to dealers for $6/doz.  Of course you had to buy 12 dozen minimum.  Pretty good profit for the store owner.  I included the little mini sized multis too.  The pix are from 65 years ago.  There was a red swiss type one as well.  If anybody wants to see it, just ask.  Best wishes.  G

A red Kamp-King?  I'd like to see this.

Alright folks, we're doing a little GAW at the end of this challenge.  What you see here before you is a Rough Ryder Camp knife, with red bone jigged handles, nickel silver bolsters, and brass liners.  She's a beaut isn't she.  Let me assure you, this little gem is sharp and it wasn't even the blade that bit me.  And yes, I will ship to our overseas friends.  You just need to tell me the best way to get it to you.

Day 1
I wasn't going to do this one, but I need a distraction so here I am.
Let's kick this off with an 80s? Imperial Matterhorn, though I may change a few times.
But Im starting with this because my 1st knife as a kid was the Imperial Hobo.

How bout a task...
One of my Zippos was missing its felt evaporation cover so I decided to try a leather replacement. I punched the hole, installed it then trimmed the excess to the lighter body.
Hopefully it works, not that I use my Zippos much anymore, but its nice to try and keep them in working order.
*if it does work I may make secondary covers for my others to sit over the felt.

Day 2

I started to post a picture of the red Swiss Army Copy made by Imperial but saw where one of our members is going to use one this month.  I thought it might be better to see a real one in use by friend Noa Isumi.
It is good to see a give-away as part of the challenge this month.  Very generous.  I saw the implied warning about the can opener.  More on that later.
Rice with turkey gravy.  With a Sak-a-Like in near proximity.
Stihl needs to have someone to do a redesign of the gas caps on their weed wackers.  The manual has a warning about fuel spewing out of the tank when the cap is opened.  The cap has a fin on top of it that assures you can't get a good grip on it.  I almost resorted to a pair of pliers once.  The cap does have a tether on it, which is good.  Anyway, once you finally loosen the abomination and give it a partial turn, the ruddy thing sprays gas on you.  I don't mean just a drop or two, either.  Anyone who decides to fill the tank while smoking a ciggie is in danger of immolation.  I may have to resort to some kind of home-made splash shield and maybe a pair of pliers.

It never occurred to me that a Swiza is a Sakalike!  I have one that I've not used, so I might swap it out as the challenge goes on.  No uses for Day 2, but I'm impressed by the Camillus awl!

I liked my little Ruike. Probably my favorite in that style other than an actual SAK. Those little drills on multis are one of the things that seems better as an idea than in practice. Cool to see some Swizas finally getting put through their paces. Love the old Kamp King ads, Gary. Excited to see what else you come up with. The Irish Imperial Scouts are nice knives. I have a few I'd rate above the original Kamp Kings. Pradels are on my list to get, but I haven't managed to pick one up yet.

Scene:  A factory office in Pennsylvania.
Time:  October 1942

Three nervous industrial engineers stand with their heads down in an ante-room.  They shuffle nervously and don't meet eyes with anyone.  A few are smoking.  All have bandaged fingers and one has a big white triangle over one ear.
"Mister Bondergrift will see you now," says a cute secretary with a band-aid on one thumb.  The three shuffle in.  Bondergrift sits behind a big mahogany desk smoking a cigar.  Both his hands have bandages.
"Well, I suppose you all know why you are here."
One man clears his throat and says, "Yes sir.  We would like to apologize and will clear out our desks and be off the property before lunch, if that's okay with you."
Bondergrift blows a smoke ring that looks like it is wearing a bandage and says," You three bozos may have just won the war for the U.S. of A."  Three stunned men stare at the plant manager.  One stumbles to a chair.
"That scroo-up finger ripper of a can-opener you dim wads designed has just reached the attention of the Pentagon.  They want to use it as a weapon of war, and WE got the contract."
One engineer fishes a slightly blood stained hankie out of his pocket and wipes his brow.
"What the military wants to do is make it so supplies of GI C-rations fall into the hands of the enemy.  Disabled barge floats up on a beach, supply depot gets 'accidentally' over run, that sort of spiel.  All the rations are surplus.  Lima beans with ham.  Our soldiers won't eat the things.  And with the cans are going to be YOUR can-openers on a cheap handle sort of deal.  Get it?  We have an initial contract for 10 thousand and more if it is successful. "
" Naturally they will think that the beans are poison.  They will test them, then issue them to their own troops.  With the can-openers.  Pentagon number boys predict 25,000 casualties within a month.  So, you boys get to keep your jobs.  You happy?  Now get out of here before I change my mind."

Understand, Germans with both trigger fingers bandaged,  a swap out to the Eastern front, Lima beans and  ham.  Kinda caught the Germans with their pants down.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Day 2

A Camillus reject, name scrubbed off main blade. Scout style pattern.  Locking tab on cap lifter/screw driver.

The Ozark Trail scissors tested, FAILURE with paracord, blades separate, yet cuts paper OK.

Evidently there was no big fuss about the can openers as a weapon, but the ham and lima beans were ruled biological weapons.  In spite of that they remained on in the US inventory for many years.  Ask someone who was in the Army years ago what the colorful name for this canned delicacy was.
You have already seen what friend AzteCypher did with the can opener.  Tomorrow we will see what IMR did with one.  Best wishes.  G
