Day 21 - catch up

The top one is my olive handled Opinel with a carbon blade.  I picked it up in a lot I bought last year and I've really taken a liking to it.  I love the patina on the blade.

The one below the olive handled Opi is the walnut handled Inox Opinel that FarmerX gifted me.  I really like the walnut handle so I feel it's too pretty to EDC it but, I feel like I'm doing it a disservice by not doing so.  Hence why it's made an appearance in this challenge.

Here are mine.

From top to bottom:

No. 12 - A bit too bulky, unless you really need that extra bit of blade for some reason.

No. 12 Explore - A No.10 size blade in a No. 12 size handle.  Heavy for an Opinel.  Useless gimmicks in handle make it uncomfortable.  Do not recommend.

No. 10 - This is the Goldilocks Opi IMO.  Fits my hand well, carries light and easy, and has enough blade for just about any task that might reasonably be expected of a folding knife.  If you don’t have one of these, get one.

No. 08 - Apparently their most popular model, but a little small for my hand and taste.

No. 08 Outdoor - I really wanted to like this knife, but I don’t.  The handle is small for my hand, the blade is small for an outdoors knife, I don’t like the serrations, and they missed the opportunity to make the shackle key function as a thumb hole.

No. 05 - The largest size without a locking ring. A far smaller knife than I generally prefer, but possibly a good option for dress pants or less permissive environments.
I agree on the No. 10. It's just right.

Day 23

On to my next lightweight knife.  This one is very similar to the Rival I have been using the past 2 days - it’s a Buck 283 Nano Batam.  It weighs in at 0.7 ounces, the same as the Rival.

Day 23

:like:

Is the screwdriver blade on an electrician strong enough to use as a light pry bar, or would it snap the same as any other blade?

It depends on what you define as light use.  A switch plate that's been painted to the wall shouldn't be a problem.  A paint can lid shouldn't be a problem.  A wooden shipping crate that has been nailed shut would be more of a risk than I'd be willing to take.  A dedicated pry tool or even the marlin spike on a rigging knife would probably hold up better to abuse, but these knives were intended to see hard use in the coal mines, so they are fairly durable.

Your Neo6 is quite handsome in WALNUT😉

The lanyard is handy for me, to remove the o6 from the sheath.   I think my hand is too big to notice that fine leather string.

Thanks Gordon, I am enjoying the Walnut. I have been carrying the Neo. 6 in my front pocket, the same as the Peanut. Both are unnoticeable. I can see how the lanyard would make retrieving the knife easier from a slip.
