Yeah, I have no need for a new tool that's essential an Arc without the Free technology, so I'll probably buy both colors

Count me in I am definitely picking one up, I don't have an Arc so I can maybe justify to myself though.  :multi:

Seeing the discussion and saw FB post in the LM user group of the new WAVE ALPHA, had me inspecting my two 2nd gen work WAVEs and a gifted WAVE DATED 2004!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And, have to ask, Why is the most popular tool, claimed by LM, having to experience so many revisions?

My SuperTool300 and REBAR just about perfect as the first day introduced, continue to deliver, with major changes being different compatible sheaths or in the REBAR’s case more color options.
No “Plus” model, no 2nd gen, or other advance notations.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Is Rich_SD the new Chako?   ???

No, I doubt anyone could match Chako’s collection of Lm products.  His storage tool chests are legendary as well.

Rich_SD is our present day advocate and cheer leader we can only hope to emulate in some humble way.

With the greatest respect

Fun fact: the cutting surface on the Alpha scissors is actually slightly larger than that of the Surge.

Depending on the price, this is one I’m excited about and may end up getting one.  :nanadance:

I’ve been wanting the Wave with outside scissors (and awl, although that’s easy to add) for a while.  I don’t really need or really care about the fancy blade steel.  I still wish they’d do a Vic style combo chisel wire stripper.  It might be worth it mod the large flat head.

I’ll be waiting on the reviews here before purchasing. And I’ll live vicariously through Rich and Poncho and everyone else for a bit

On FACEBOOK, LEATHERMAN USER GROUP, is suppose to have introductory review of the Wave Alpha this coming week.

You can view, just can not comment until you are a member as I understand the group settings.

I am expecting it to be the CHARGE replacement since it has been retired.

Do we still think a second Wave-variant (I think it was the Sport?) is on the way, or do we think they were both potential names for the same product. If this is replacing the Charge, I wonder if the Sport will replace the Curl. Awlways liked the Curl better anyway since you got an awl, but I guess that's less of an issue with the new one.

Confirmed $199.95 and 3 scale color option (obsidian (black), cascadia (green) and some word that sounds like "cannulan" (orange) .  Leatherman guy Jackson Wang on social media acknowledges that its his first product.  They "listened to the consumers" on  Facebook and Reddit (!), who said they wanted:  1) comfort  ("arguably one of the most comfortable tools on the market today"); 2) big, outside scissors (says its has the largest cutting surface of any Leatherman MT scissors); and 3) MagnaCut.

"Really its just an awesome value overall".

I think its impossible that fans are begging for MagnaCut, but of course I could be wrong.  That just seems to be an excuse to cranks the MSRP by $100.  But what do I know.

Thanks, PN  :hatsoff: I awlso saw something about that earlier this morning.  I agree, the magnacut blade is likely a price strategy.  $200 might be too much for my blood.  Too bad MTO wasn’t listed as their source. Probably a more reliable source.

I’ll still try to find one in store to check out.

Wasn’t there a wave epsilon also somewhere?

Annnnnd I just watched the video Leatherman video. I don’t have social media so thanks PN for listing the LM designer name.

Welp, I do like the black and orange colors and the scissors do look like an ideal for this size tool. The reverse tanto blade also looks much nicer in the hand than the leaked images. I do like that style blade it’s quite comfortable to use for more precise cutting.

I would give credit for this if I remembered where I saw it - prolly a Youtube comment - but one poster noted that with the rise of NexTool, Bibury, etc. making quality designs at 50% or 25% of Leatherman prices, Leatherman has been somewhat forced to go "upscale" where there is less competition.

And of course, its much easier to inflate the margins at the high end of the market.

The big thing I took from that video is how stiff the main pivots for the handles look.

At a couple of points, it looked as stiff as a brand new Rebar.

I know there are plenty of other Leatherman models, and possibly even more Wave variants to come, but I’d have loved to see differences between the colours. Orange non-slip handles screams sailing or fishing tool to me - stick a serrated blade on it, or at least a combo.

For the Magnacut, I suppose they’re basing it on market research questions that are skewed to give the answer they want - Do you want really good steel for the blades, or shall we make them out of kitchen foil?

If the LM Tool Group really listened to the customer, the first thing to be learned is that not everybody wants the same tools in their pocket.

I think they missed the opportunity to launch a LM Speciality Shop.

Provide a tool handle, choice of handle color, material and finish.

Select the blade material; Magnutcut, 154CM, S35VN, etc price  addon for more premium steel.

Then option the other three handle slots with set choices.
Serrrated Blade
Scissors
File
Saw
Gut hook

Then the inside tools can be standardized.

This will give you.a choice.

As and example,
I would select G10 Orange or Micarata

My blade a 154CM (it’s been proven)

A SERRATED BLADE w/o gut hook.

The file w/diamond on one side.

And SCISSORS

I do not need Saw Blade in suburban setting, scissors serves me better.

If camping the saw blade is better option.

Promise a 4 week delivery !

Customize your tool option.

I know many who have already make their tool theirs and already one of the makers allow you to switch out blades.

LM missed it imho.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I think that SteveC is a Leatherman field tester who has had the Alpha in his pocket for 6 months already.  He magically knew the MSRP and colors before anyone else, but his contract with Leatherman prohibits him from admitting it.

Sorry guys there's things that can't be said until the embargo is over with. I know right! Wish we could get one for all of our top fellas here. I feel it's a great tool, nice upgrade from the standard Wave but I still prefer the Arc. I do feel Leatherman is being very dirty with the discontinuing of the P2, P4, Charge TTi and Charge G10 and leaving is the Arc and Wave Alpha. I know they're consolidating and trying to streamline the business but dang. Glad I got some of these tools before they got chopped.

Glad that we have a deep spy planted at Leatherman HQ.

This may be a strange comment, but what really pushes me from a yes to a no are the brass-colored accents on the pivots and thumb stud.  It transforms the MT from something truly utilitarian like the Wave+ into a piece of man-jewelry.
