Old Rebar, Who Dis?
on: May 21, 2025, 01:36:47 AM
Got this NOS Rebar. It's going to be a gift, but I don't mind opening it (I figure I'll make sure the edges are good and give it a couple drops of oil). Do we need any info/pics for the wiki or anything?

Oh wow, a pancake sheath, so cool!

I have one too, in the package, a Heritage version, iirc!

And saw one today on eBay in the package to for 79. Buy it now.

That will make a great gift!  But my birthday is not till Halloween, can you wait that long?  I will act really really surprised now, you do not even need to wrap it!!!

Package date is 9/11?
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I bought the Rebar the minute that it came out. I completely forgot that it came with that sheath.

If that's what the 0911 in the corner means, yes.

Awesome find BPRoberts  :like: :like:
i havent seen that packing on Rebar nor that sheat. Some says old Rebar is better than new ones but cant say for sure since i havent tested old vs new.
If you allready have Rebar i would suggest to keep that Rebar in package and store it somewhere

Surprised that I apparently found a little bit of a gem. I got it because it was the cheapest NIB Rebar I could find to gift. I think I'll probably still pass it along, but I have a little time to think about it.

I wonder if that Rebar is old enough to have date codes?

A great find any way about it!

I had a friend that other people called "Moose".  Anything he owned for a couple of months looked like it had been buried and dug up with an ax.  He had a nice old Uncle Henry like the CASE I am carrying.  He was going to give it to another friend.  I saw he had broken the big blade in two.
One day I ran into him at the flea market.  He said, "Do you remember the XXXXX that I brought up to your place and we both shot with it?  I forgot I owned it until this week.  I hit the brakes hard on my Jeep and it came sliding out from in under the seat.  Been there for years, I guess."
I couldn't believe he had forgotten he owned it.  I asked what it looked like now.  He answered, "I couldn't open the cylinder (still loaded) or pull back the hammer it was rusted so bad.  I took the grips off and stuck it in a bucket of diesel fuel."
I hope your friend doesn't take care of his stuff like my pal Moose.  That's a good looking item.
Best wishes.  G

The REBAR never had a date stamp on the handles.

What I read, this was because the handle material on the REBAR is thinner than other LM products.    :dunno:

That is what I read as well, I thought Leatherman had put some early rebars on the market, and then stopped date coding.  That is just how I took it, just how my mind processed that.            ::) ::) ::)

Open the tools of a Rebar and you will see there is barely any real estate that isnt part of the tools locking mechanism or the plyers slide.  However, on the inside of the spring loaded actual lick release tab, mine has B02 stamped.  Dont know what that means, but I suppose they could have stamped the date code there, if B02 isnt already some sort of date code

Didn't see this until after I gave it to him (he was very excited). No date code, but some kind of letter/number combo similar to Thundahs.
