Day 2:

Cold Steel Canadian Belt Knife. As of late, my favorite for heavier work.

For some reason, Grohmann knives are hard to find--especially at what I'd call a fair price by my budget. Cold Steel makes a copy that uses a lot of Mora DNA (such as the molded plastic sheath) to get the price down to a far more reasonable $20.

After looking at them for months, I finally picked up a Civivi Baby Banter--at Walmart of all places!  I like small folders--and this one had great specs (and fit/finish) for the price. Steel is Nitro V--a great balance of corrosion resistance, toughness, and ease of sharpening. While $60 is on the high-end of what I tend to spend on knives, the quality is equal to $200+ knives I've handled. I own hardly any high-end folders. My Spyderco Para 3 (bought as a factory second for like $40 direct from Spyderco a few years ago) and Emerson CQC-7 (a very well worn example I got for $20--I was halfway certain it was fake, but Emerson said it was real) are as close as I could get.

Day 2

The Civet got the call to break the seal on a jar of instant coffee.

Shown below is the first cup. The second was marginally better. Perhaps some experimentation with the proportions is needed, but my early assessment is that it won't be a repeat purchase.

You're right SOS24, I do like carrying this smaller fixie.  Couldn't even tell it was there.  But now I'm thinking it was a bad idea to do this challenge as I'm already seeing some nice fixies that might require a second look from me down the road.  Perhaps I can start dropping hints for my birthday and Christmas even though they're a little bit away.    :D

Day 2

Got to open a coffee delivery then I broke down some boxes for recycling.  The Tonife handled it without any issues.

Day 3

Receipts are a challenge staple for me (so much so that I don't let my friends throw them out). An ALDI receipt sacrificed itself for this photo. I'm thinking the Civet needs a few whacks across the cardboard strop.

Fixed Blade Challenge Day Three

Used the Becker to open up some Glock magazines. This knife reminds me a lot of my Esse Izula 2. Also used it twice to open some Jarritos on the road back to the house today.

DAY 4.  It rained all day yesterday, so I went out to survey the gardens.  Just a few flowers knocked off.

I can't find my small CRKW fixed blade.  It could be here, or I could have given it away.

Day 3

Thought I would try pocket carrying this Cold Steel Bird & Game, but it was uncomfortable when I sat down. I believe these are based on an old Marbles design. I don't love the thin handle, but the pinky ring is nice.

Day 4

Some paracord picked a fight with the Civet. The paracord lost, but the Civet took its lumps, too. It'll definitely need a few whacks across the cardboard strop.

:tu:
I always feel like Dick Tracy when I talk with someone on my Apple watch.  Also brings back fond memories of reading the “funny papers” at my grandparents’ house as a kid.

I wonder what percentage of current smart watch users have any idea who Dick Tracy is.

Do you have the kilt and hose to go with it?

Day 4

I don't know how this Korean BBQ place expects me to eat a piece of steak like this without a knife. Luckily the Razel Compact Fixed was on the scene. Great little all around beater. I keep the main edge fairly sharp, and the chisel tip more like a scraper than true chisel. Haven't used the back serrations much, but they do make short work of cardboard.

I actually do have a kilt, but no hose as of yet.

I forgot to add this pic of the warning label on the box, which made me chuckle.  I’d put it right up there with “WARNING:  COFFEE IS HOT”
  :D

Day 4:

Gerber Gator Hatchet. Yes, I said hatchet. The handle houses a small roughly 3" fixed blade inside the handle. I bought this one last month as it was one of the two Gerber sets Sam's Club put out for this Christmas season (still waiting to see what Walmart and Lowe's put out--as I tend to not only do my Christmas shopping, but buy extras/beater knives and tools to stash everywhere).

For most light brush cutting, the combo works great. The blade is great for cutting vines, as well as whittling and carving. I wear it on a toolbelt when doing yard work.

I admit I used only the axe today.
