Any thoughts on the new LSTs (and a couple questions about the old ones.

I assume most of you have seen the new LSTs.

Any thoughts? I feel like calling it the LST Ultra is an interesting choice, since we already have the Ultralight. Like the new colors (interesting, but not garish). Leaning towards picking one up whenever they drop.

I also had a question about the "regular" LSTs. I'm seeing mixed reports about them being made in the USA. Is this a case of assembled in the USA, 99% of the parts made elsewhere? Is there a timeframe to be on the lookout for for USA vs overseas? I also see the US-1, which looks like it's basically just an LST with an extra cutout. Any thoughts on those?

I don't have any special insight into Gerber's operations.  I do have an old LST type.  They were hot stuff in the day.  Nice light pocket carries.  Didn't cost too much.  Not very novel today.  The same basic formula has been repeated and/or modified dozens of times.  Best wishes.  G

Baltic Haze and burnt orange are great colors. I can't say I'm a fan of the pocket clip. As for the origins of their components...they don't seem to be Berry Amendment compliant. So I'd suspect that at least a few bits and pieces are sourced from overseas.

Noticed Auto Zone has this set available in most (though strangely, NOT the one closest to me) that includes the new keychain driver and the LST in gray--$25.

Seems cheaper than the knife is, most places. Also, they seem to be the only brick and mortar so far to carry the LST. They've also got the micro model in black/stonewash and gray/black.

Picking one up in a few days. I'll be by one of the other Auto Zones in my area, and I can't wait to see how it stacks up against my old ones. However, I'm confused. It's more like the EZ OUT than the LST.

I checked out the LST that friend Cody mentioned.  I know there are several LST types available.  This one does look a little more EZ-Out than the one that friend BPRoberts showed in his photo.  At any rate, it doesn't cost much, and the little bit driver is a good item to throw in on the deal.
I don't really have any near-future Gerber purchases on my list of things to do.  I still have an EZ-Out that I carried a while in a challenge (and don't particularly like) and an old LST that I do rather like but don't carry.  I will include a photo from the ad in the link above.  Best wishes.  G

Was thinking of getting a green one for the challenge next month, but hard to argue w/ knife and driver for less than knife. I have a buddy who works at an Autozone, maybe I'll pay him a visit.

Of course, nobody here is never going to have a paucity of choices when it comes to EDC.  I was thinking about how an LST and that little multi-tool/bit driver thing would go a long way toward providing most of what is needed for EDC.  I could have gotten by easily with nothing more so far this year.  Best wishes.  G

I just had a little Gerber shopping spree that included a few LSTs.  They feel very light and durable  :tu:  Honestly, I expected lower quality considering the low cost.

The scissors are just ok.  Very light duty, but I've seen a lot worse.

I'm getting one tomorrow.

As a heads up, Sam's Club stores are now stocking a three-pack that includes the LST for $28--just a couple bucks more than the LST at MSRP. The Air Ranger looks great in G-10 (and much better as a user vs. aluminum), but I personally hate the Paraframe--which tends to be Gerber's favorite filler for these packs. I'd have preferred the LST Mini.

Seems these Sam's packs always have one new model plus two existing ones. The G-10 Air Ranger is a huge improvement over the typically aluminum ones issued in previous years' packs.

Sam's will be the first local store to stock the model.

Description says Highbrow--which is a different metal-handled AXIS Lock folder. Yet, it's actually the G-10 Harsey Air Ranger.
