Carson 20X Pocket Microscope

I saw this on Popular Mechanics for $14 and when my wife checked on Amazon it was $10 so I had pretty much had to buy this, and though I haven't used it in the field yet it impresses. I tried so hard to get a good picture with my iPhone but couldn't get a good illustrative one....this thing magnifies like crazy.  My picture doesn't come close to doing it justice. It has a UV light, a light to illuminate what you're magnifying, and can serve as a penlight as well.

That's an interesting little gadget. I can see it being very useful, and it almost certainly doesn't take up much space. Use of button cell batteries to power the lights is also a bonus.

My little one is a bit too young yet to focus, but once she's a bit older I am excited to show her leaves and bugs and other stuff up close and hopefully keep nurturing her love of being outside. In the meantime it'll amuse my inner child.

That's pretty neat actually.  There's a few times I could've used one of those.
