So now the 93mm family are officially Aloxes!
on: November 03, 2025, 08:30:08 AM
Hello Knights,

I was intrigued in the announcements this year - by the suffix on the Extended Alox Range/Synergies and also the recent Companions.
Every single one of the Alox models in those ranges has the suffix 'Alox' after/to their name - Eg:
Companion Slim Alox; Synergy X Alox etc etc

I was slightly puzzled by this - as to why they now have that suffix - Everybody knows the 93mm range is Alox - Correct?   ???
And I was going to post another grumpy old man post saying "So do we now have the call the Pioneer and Farmer the Pioneer Alox and Farmer Alox?"    :pok:  However I thought I would just check the catalogues to see how they are named - and sure enough - All the 93mm model names are now suffixed with Alox.

This is the case in the 2024 catalogue - So I checked back further - Same in 2021
So I went back further - Not the same in the 2017 catalogue - There they are just the Pioneer and Farmer etc etc

So sometime between 2017 and 2021 Victorinox had have an official name change across the range!!
So following that logic, is the Climber now to be known as the Climber Cellidor?   :pok:   ???

Interesting?   ???   eh?    ???
But if you ask me ..... not necessary, and elongating the names without good reason

Whaddya'all think

Well, I do own a COMPANION!  It is a 91mm with RED Cellidor scales.

I did learn not long ago that ALOX models, or is it 93mm knifes were referred to as Heavy Duty because the implements are made of thicker steel.

And, I will admit, the VICTORINOX naming conventions do not appear to follow any logic.

An example,  There is an entire series of TINKERS (w/phillips back tools).  But, there is not a series of the SPARTAN line.    Tourist, Spartan. Climber, etc.  each with corkscrew.

It is confusing to a new fan, and worst for a new oldster.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Maybe they think that Algie Appleknocker won't know it's alox unless you tell him.  Might be tryin to fool him with some kinder corrygated plastik.  Hmmm?  G

Victorinox's naming conventions have always been a mess.  This just continues the unfortunate tradition...

Well, at least they seem to making these new ones in more than just the normal "silver" Alox.

If Vic would make a "Victorinox Red" Pioneer, or Pioneer X, I would have bought one by now!

:iagree: It still boggles my mind that red is not the standard alox color.

I guess it's all to do with the back in the 60s when they switched from red Soldiers to silver Soldiers - due to alox colours wearing

But I agree w you - Red is best - But awlso red looks great when worn

Somebody said RED, ALOX RED???

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Two within reach!

I have two Pioneers upstairs, same year mfg, yet two different shades of RED.   WONDER, if inconsistencies in final product had a affect on RED ALOX availability?
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Maybe, though they kept red as the standard pioneer alox color through the entire old cross area, up until around 1999.
