When I take someone paddling for the first time, I tell them Rule #1.  It is a rule that is so important that there are two of them.

Rule #1 (in no particular order) is Always have a knife, and

Rule #1, if it's not secured, its not yours.

Long time forum members will know how easily it is to accidentally lose a Bear Grylls knife, a digital camera and a few Leatherman Surges overboard.   :facepalm:



There is also a Rule #2, and it's "Always maintain the proper paddler/boat ratio."

If you reverse it and get a boat/paddler ratio, we have a problem.
