2026 Classic Challenge!
on: December 11, 2025, 06:19:45 PM
Over in the little SAKs thread there’s been some chatter about doing a Classic Challenge.

So here’s the official thread. Reply below if you are interested in joining.

I’m proposing we start in January, but that’s not set in stone.

I'll be following this one but I don't think I could go a month with just a Classic. Last time I carried one was in high school; yes, it was that long ago when you could pull out a pocket knife in class and no one batted an eye. After I bought my first Climber in 86 I never carried a Classic again.
I can't wait to see the creative uses of others though. This will be a fun one to watch.

Is this for CLASSICS ONLY?

Or AWL 58mm?

For January I believe I am on the list for BO items.

Victorinox and Wenger make?

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

That’s a good question. I believe the classic challenge is the classic only (idk if the 65mm wenger equivalent counts ).  There is also a <74mm challenge which would include all 58mm.

I’m going for the classic badge, since that will be a real challenge for me. If the mods allow it, I personally don’t care if others do the <74mm challenge in this same thread.

Put me down as a maybe. Going through 30 days with only a Classic would be a real challenge for me.

I would keep this challenge only for Classic since we have badges for 58, 65 and 74mm SAKs challenge, it would be more challenging to complete with Classic only

There is already a Classic badge.  I know since I earned one.  Best wishes.  G

Last time this thing was held there were questions about Classic 58mm variants.  Stuff like Bijou, and the models with metal handles, etc.  They were allowed then.  I carried a Classic and a Bijou sometimes.  Of course this is Gustopher's challenge.  He can do as he pleases.  Best wishes.  G

I don't make the rules, and I plan of primarily carrying regular classic SD's or alox classics.  I'd assume any 58mm with scissors, nail file and blade qualifies? But I don't really know  :dunno:

List so far:

1. gustophersmob
2. Ozark75
3. Barry Rowland
4. UscgSal

I've got a couple new special classics on the way just for this.  I plan to give them a run for their money.  If they survive, then they will likely go on my wife's keys and maybe to one of the kiddos.

You are off to a great start with a fantastic crew :salute:

I will monitor your progress for the sidelines.   I have ignored my Celidor VAGABOND (USA Manager when purchased) for too long due to other challenges.

One item that I find tempting is the wide assortment of scales that are available.  The TROUT print and the LLBEAN shoe prints are favorites.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

:iagree:  lots of cool scale prints out there.  In fact, the two I have on the way are special prints which I’ll share when they arrive, hopefully Monday.

I do wish the rambler had a similar variety, but oh well. Even though I’m going to give the classic it’s fair shake next month, there’s really no doubt in my mind the rambler is the superior SAK.

Isn’t the RAMBLER and the CLASSIC the same 58mm size?

The scales should be identical and thus can be swapped.

That is how I would satisfy my itch that you described.

Plus, there is a badge for doing the procedure TOO!

And here they are ready to go, along with some other candidates that may make an appearance during the challenge.

So why the goat and chicken scales? Well, the chicken one because we have chickens. And the goat because that’s what I’m going to test during this challenge. The Classic is the most sold knife in the world (probably in all of human history), but do sales numbers = greatness? We’ll find out. It will be my primary carry during the challenge.
