Not a bad deal on a Sapphire Swisschamp
on: January 06, 2026, 06:09:19 AM
Not a bad deal on a Sapphire Swisschamp at $79.

Thought I'd share this should anyone be looking to add a Swisschamp to their collection.   Or a second... or a third....  :D

https://a.co/d/8Eh2D69

It mentions that is has a pen but I'm not seeing where.

Yes the ink pen is included, detailed in the second 33 Functions slide.

This has PLUS scales.

On the River site I have noticed it at this low price since after November’s Black Friday sales.

So tempting.   Another member here, the one that feeds critters in his yard was tempting me to buy!  While showing off his sl er tech model. 🤪
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I think the silver thingie model is the only current SC without a pen.  Specs say it doesn't have the straight pin either, but mine does for some reason.  I think our friend Aztec saw the back side photo of a transparent blue SAK that was in the SC ad.  I don't think that is the reverse side of a SC in the photo.  No pin, pen, or mini screwdriver in that photo.  Must be a Spartan or something.  Looks like a parcel hook in the photo?  Hard to tell.
I tried to remember who it was that feeds wild animals and has a SwissChamp.  Then I remembered it was our friend WECSOG.  He could have been fattening up a possum, since a nice plump possum is the prime ingredient in a really tasty stew.  Turnips, carrot, onion.  Nice brown possum gravy to sop a biscuit or two in.
Nobody actually needs a SwissChamp.  A Spartan is the perfect knife after all.  All anyone needs.  Of course it would be more gooder with a saw.  Maybe a pair of scissors?  Then it would be perfect except for when you need a file.  Or a magnifying glass, or........
Best wishes.  G

Its very difficult to pass that up at $79, even if you already have about 4 of them in all scale colors.   :ahhh

So ooo!

Canceled BLUE, which would not arrive until middle of next week.

And SILVERTECH is said to arrive today between 5P and 10P with doorstep delivery.    :viking:

And double darns to my TEXAS friend Nando for refreshing a previously conquered temptation.  It is just to hard to resist a SILVERtech model of any flavor.

I suppose you can take some consolation that you held out longer than most.  I also think I might have misidentified our friend WECSOG as the critter feeder, possum cooker, and SAK tempter.  It is possible that the real culprit could have been....   Just might have been....  Maybe....   Someone else.

And, for the record, I believe a Ground Hog (aka Wood Chuck) flavors a stew a touch better. Of course both are good cooked with enough onion and garlic

The old timers used the term 'whistle pig' for the critter down here also.  I doubt if anyone has eaten a marmot (groundhog) down here in ages.

That is a new term to me!

We had trouble with the critters establishing burrows in alpha fields.  If not paying attention you could break an axle on the tractor or severely bend the frame on the hey wagon.

Farmer paid me $20 each to fetch both ears.  A .22 with a scope about 50 yards away.  One day I dispatch momma, poppa, and aunt brownie.  Easiest $60 made in late 60s. What he did with them I know not.  I did plow that section up so the steers coming to get fatten did not break a leg.

They damage field crops too.  I used to whack them but just leave them alone now.  Agriculture has just about died out here.  Unfortunately, I never got paid for pest removal.  You may remember how I mentioned my mysterious neighbor Ms. Phoenix.  That cottage stayed vacant for years and I often saw a groundhog sitting on the porch.  A lady bought the place and discovered the varmints had undermined the house with a network of burrows.  Took quite a bit of repairs to patch things up there.  Best wishes.  G

Well they delivered, 18:23 per email advising it was on the porch.

I had dinner plans at 6pm (18:00) so had to wait till I arrived home to retrieve the package.

Wow this is a hunk of steel, yet do lovely in the SILVER TECH!

A lot going on this knife on both sides.

It appears the package was created 1/2023.
Gary had told me these scales do not sport an ink pen, not plus style.
Does have a pin hole but no pen

The Saphire claimed it sported these features, but I am delighted I have the SILVERtech style to match several of my other patterns.

I am yet surprised by same day delivery.  The Saphire was not be delivered till a week later!

Those things are a real piece of craftsmanship.  I personally don't miss the pen.  The way I figure it, the Azamov people probably put a sub-station in the same town you live in and stocked it with stuff you have looked at on-line.  That is how they delivered it so fast.  Only had to come about 5 miles maybe.  Think of it.  You are providing employment for several people just by your buying habits.
Looks like quite a few of the members here carry these things.  Mostly with a sheath, I suppose.  It is hard to beat the comfortable carry of something like a Spartan actually.  I start feeling the bulk when I get past the four layer models, since I never use a sheath.  I carried a four layer Wenger this week.  Didn't bother me at all.  Have the Wenger in my pocket now actually.
Best wishes.  G

I'm not trying to tempt anyone.  I don't do that sort of naughty thing.  However, since you have seen the polished steel perfection of the SC first hand now, you probably realize the joy and pride of ownership that the pretty thing brings.  There wouldn't be anything wrong in parking a beautiful blue $79 bargain right alongside the nice new (probably lonesome) one that you already have.
That same blue beauty could very well be $200 next year.  Who knows?  Think what trauma that could cause once a case of the 'coulda, shoulda, oughta bought one when they were giving them away' regret syndrome sets in.  I shudder to think of it.  Brrr.
Of course, you do already have the one silver thingie.  A stone cold bargain on a blue one doesn't really mean anything.  Right?
Best wishes always,
Gary

I think I've used the pen on mine just a few times, in a pinch.  I've used the scaler more, once for its intended purpose and a few times as an actual ruler.  It can also be used as a range finder!  I'll look up how that works.
At first, these guys seem large.  After awhile, you barely notice them.  They're incredible pieces of craftsmanship.  You got a great deal buddy!
Gary's right.  Blue would go well with that silver tech  :D

Not a bad deal on a Sapphire Swisschamp at $79.

I ordered one, which is about my 5th Swiss Champ.  When the next global pandemic hits and the Victorinox shelves are empty, I'll be sitting here smugly, covered in Swiss Champs and laughing like a maniac because years of forethought have finally reached fruition.

I had a dream!

Fishing a remote lake in my kayak, my SWISSCHAMP secured safely in a chest pocket of my vest, that was causing the vest to be skewed ever so noticeably.  The fish scaler qualifies it as a fishing tool😉
A PFD over the vest properly fitted rated for my 230#s.

I had hooked a nice size bass and as I am fighting him, I noticed I am actually be pulled into deeper water, near the path of the recreation boating area, high speed boats.

Just reached for my net and ready to land the fish, a speed boat just misses me but the wake capsizes my kayak and I am thrown from my seat.

No panic. My PFD is on and secure!  The kayak is now twenty feet away, but, but I am struggling to keep my head and shoulders above water.   I kick and kick but to no avail.

I am about 40 feet from shore, I fight and take in a large gulp of air as I am pulled under.
But this time I begin to swim and kick toward shore, pulling myself closer with each stroke. My lungs are burning, I am pulled deeper, I can see the trees on shore from under water, but I am at the bottom of the lake, pulling against the grass snd brush in the lake bed and kicking harder now.   Only a few more strokes, a few mor…

Darkness, I now am floating above the water, rescue crew arrived, find a lifeless body in four feet of water about 15’ from shore.    “He almost made it” one of them said.   Then another said yea, he would have if this was not in his pocket, hold up the SWISSCHAMP he pulled from my vest pocket, it is as heavy as an anchor, poor fella.    “Yea, another, third one this month!”

If fishing keep this big boy on shore!  Or tie a line to it use as an anchor, another feature. 👋🪽
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
