any idea of the year of this knife?
on: February 23, 2009, 04:16:37 AM
I've been meaning to pick up an Alox for quite some time.  Just don't see them all that often around here.  But did manage to pick this one off on ebay.  It was a good price.  Any idea which model and year it might be?  Thanks.

thats what I thought upon some research as well.  I know they stamp the blades with the year yet this one doesn't have that.  I am wondering what year they started stamp'n 'em.

Stamped blades are rarely seen since they are used only if there's surplus blades left from mil contract (soldier), the alox line receives regular blades as standard.

It is an Alox Electrician but the small blade has been abused - overly - poorly sharpened. The main is not so good either. It does have the older style shield from the 80's but.......

You know, it's a testament to how used that knife was.  If you look at the edges of the handle in the third picture, you'll notice they are rubbed smooth.  I know this happens with bone, stag, and delrin jigged pocketknives, where the jigging starts to fade with use and time, but I didn't know it could happen to alox.  I guess that knife was a workhorse for someone, providing them with years and years of loyal service.

As folks have said that looks to have been well used.  The blades need a bit of TLC but you should be able to get them in good order again.  I does look like the awl has lost its tip though.  Looks like you have a good refurb project there.  :tu:

Thanks for the encouragement.  It only set me back just over the 5 dollar mark so it will make a good little restoration project.

Ok, well to be honest I have to wait for it to arrive to my home.  Bought it and as we speak it's being shipped.
What do you have to trade?  If you can send some pic's that would be great?  :)  Thanks.
