Ontario machetes
on: February 28, 2009, 02:54:37 AM
I've been looking for a place I can get a 12" Ontario (not the economy line or the d handle line) for about $20 shipped...anyone know of one or has one they want to sell/trade?

Anyways, what do you guys think of these?  I've read they are great for limbing, but not that great at light vegetation (Tramontinas are good for that I've heard; thinner blade)

Yup, American made.

I can buy a (literally) $5 chinese machete at walmart that's based on this Ontario...but I'd never trust it...and it probably woulden't cut worth a damn.

The Woodsmans Pal looks great, but I'm not looking to spend that much :ahhh

0.125" is really really thick for machete. I have a walmart machete that came with literally no edge, it's half the thickness, and after I put one on with belt sander it's really sharp but I haven't tested it extensively (nothing around really needs one, I live in the wrong climate, it's been hanging behind my door for emergencies).

I got mine here; http://www.dlttradingcompany.com/index.php?cPath=48_64&osCsid=4c6879807449da1d5b092763e738d593
and I also got a sheath from them too (nylon) but that sheath price has gone up!
like you read, great for thicker stuff!
