I had not tried mine with my picnic kit yet.

But, I luv the the knife’s design and function. Think mine is red.

On a trail, near the area high school’s nature preserve, I tested the whistle, actually comparing to the LM Signal’s.

Within  a couple minutes three dogs appeared out of no where.

Either roaming near by, but curious. They stayed with me, behaving properly, when I returned to my car, they each went different directions. Maybe they thought they rescued me🤪

Well, anytime a dog comes over and are friendly my mood improves and that counts as saving?

I did tried my whistle today and one of our parrots answered me 😂 so mayby opinel thought about it. Should one try it at sea and see what animal answer then?

Very important use, I have done it with a SAK numerous times at work!
I’m not sure if it is supposed to be more sanitary, reduce paper towel use, or what.  But they have taken a function (holding and dispensing paper towels) that used to be handled just fine by a metal box with no electronics and no moving parts, and which worked essentially 100% of the time, and replaced it with something that uses electricity, has sensors and motors, and seems to work right maybe 50% of the time.

I’m certainly not anti-technology, but more tech isn’t always the best choice.  Rather, the simplest solution that gets the job done is often the optimal approach.

Go ahead.  But when you get eaten by a kraken, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Didn't think of the kraken, I was hoping for a dolphin or maybe a tuna. Now I done know if I dare 😂

I would not be surprised if a few whales or dolphins would not inspect the sound.

I have read, iirc, seen on a documentary , the positive reactions of humpback whales to music at sea.

What sticks out is a group of woodwind musicians were taken out to sea near A Hawaiian island, with a population of whales.  While giving the concert a collection of whales encircled the boat and appeared to be dancing to the melody.

It was neat in my mind!

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Worth a try then! If I remember, it's still a bit cold in the water here in Sweden

Day 8

This is a pre-made survival kit I got years ago, thought it was kind a fun concept more than useful. Compass has a bubble and don't work, knife has a little led light with dead battery and there is not room for much in it but it has a nice signal mirror and the sparkler works good.

It "saved" me once back when I was a smoker. I had tossed this in my fishing bag and was riding my bike out to my favorite spot to night fish. When I got there and getting ready I noticed that I had forgot my lighter! I knew I had this kit and used the knife to cut one of the tinder things in half and the  sparkler to set fire to one of them and was able to light my cigarette while getting ready for some fishing.

And of course, it's orange

It happens.  I once resorted to a firesteel and a can of sterno to get a cigar lit.

Fiskars scissors. Cost nothing, weigh nothing, cut excellently. I've had this for years and years.

Day 8. Orange you glad!

A recycled picture from WAVE Wednesday.

Classic orange on display for two iconic tool designs.

  :hatsoff:  Thank you.

One of my special memories, buying that WAVE at Cabela’s using a gift card.

Wish I bought a second, but I was interested in unique users.

Day 8

A couple of years ago during deer season, I was in need of a new orange ball cap. I had been looking for one, but everything I found was $20-$30. Which I'm not paying for a ball cap. Even ones with the logo of the store selling them (*cough*Cabelas*cough*) were super expensive, which is insane. You want me to pay $30 to advertise your store? No thanks. My last two orange hats were 1. about $3 (no logo) and 2. free (Kubota logo).

The result of that was that I bought something from Alibaba for the first time ever. Two orange ball caps for $3 (total, not each) and a couple other items that caught my eye. Free shipping, too. And the quality of the caps matches the $30 ones I was seeing. Here's one of them.

Totally in agreement here.  You don’t have to pay me to be a walking advertisement for you, but I’m certainly not going to pay you for the privilege.  And I expect a *free* hat.

Thanks for the tip! I'm also on the look for a new cap but they are expensive and don't get me started om the fact that free promotion items are now called merch and you have to pay for them...

...... or your already over priced sports branded goods  .... here's looking at you Nike and all the others

Yeah man - I always had a problem with that  :salute:

We should actually pay less for the overtly branded goods, due to our fee for the advertising!!   :pok:

Day 8

The corkscrew on the MKM Malga 6 performed its namesake function quite well.

Not sure if it is the slightly different shape, texture, or just this particular bottle of wine, but pulling the cork seemed subjectively easier with this tool than standard 91mm Vics.
 :dunno:
Perhaps further testing is in order…

:tu:
That's a thumbs up to what you said, and a rant to the companies that do that. And a lot of them make public political statements against their customer base! Unbelievable. There are some companies that I wouldn't wear their "merch" even if they paid me. Of course I don't set foot in their stores, either.

Day 8

I've been using my Acebeam TAC AA 2.0 a lot this week though I haven't really caught it in action.  However, I've picked up what I don't like about it.  It's a bit too big for what I like to EDC.  When I EDC a flashlight, half the time I'm holding it between my teeth.  The TAC AA is a bit too big and heavy to do that with.  Is it impossible?  No, it's doable.  But I can feel the weight in my pocket and when I'm holding it between my teeth.

I would still recommend it but it's not as pocket friendly as the others in my rotation for me.

Here it is next to the others in my EDC rotation.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 9. Orange you happy!

I woke earlier than normal, why  :dunno:

Other than ORANGE on the brain, and discussion of caps and brands.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Back in the 2010s, I did of bike touring, areas not familiar and with the need to be visible, I found this vest (iir) at a DICKS, XXL, perfect for fall days or cool mornings.    The cap I like, first because it fits my big head, and the emblem was cool.  Still is!    The knit hat was for safety working parking construction in sub freezing winter conditions. Plus it was reversible if needed to tone it down (I think)

And also,  Soddies catch my eye when scaled in a certain color, plus a hat pin I was given at a knife event.

I will also mention.  I am very surprised that I do not have an orange OPINEL!

Opening the fridge to grab my creamer, a container of mandarin oranges, right at eye level, I swear, screamed picture us!  Repeated by a bag of baby carrots, and then a small bowl in the cupboard, also at eye level!!!

Maddening loud those things orange can be   :dunno:  or is it my imagination
