Sissipuukko M.95 - Peltonen Ranger Knife for sale
on: February 02, 2009, 11:22:24 AM
ITEM IS SOLD!!!

Ok so after seeing Ben collection yesterday I've decided to be ruthless and sell some of my own knives that just won't get used :)

Ok so this is a Sissipuukko M.95, also known as the Peltonen Ranger Knife, which is the issue Combat/Survival knife of the Finnish Armed Forces, and let's face it, given there climate, they know a thing or two about what makes a good woods knife  8)

Now this is effectively new and unused, and is in immaculate condition :) so I'll be wanting £60 for it, with free delivery anywhere in the world :), now I know that's pretty pricey, but so was this, infact the cheapest I've seen them was here http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=FINN10470 for $149.95 so this is a bargain on such a rare knife, especially with the proper army sheath, with the Lion on it :)

Pics
Actual knife  :)

Picture from intensive googleage :D

Do you see this being a user? I mean, judging from its specs, it can take quite a beating... Do you know if it's full tang or a rat tail one? I'd consider grabbing it but only in order to put it to good/hard use (including prying, batoning, and the like...) I know this probably is a candidate shelf queen, but I have no space for such things... :)

Before Mike chimes in, this is FAR from a shelf Queen and is crying out to be used.  Like Mike said, it was issued to the Finnish Armed forces so is designed to withstand quite a bit of abuse.

I have the RK62 version and it is probably the strongest knife (maybe second to the Trailly  :D ) I own.
I'm back!!

No it's a user alright!

In term of strength it won't give much away to my SRK :o

Thanks for the input Ben. Now, let me rephrase that question: M95 or CS SRK for survival/bushcraft situations? The Trailmaster is a great knife but it seems more combat-oriented to me, compared to e.g. the SRK. My first choice would be a Kabar, but after reading HC's comments and various other forums on this knife, I decided I'd better look at something else for my needs. ATM my basic tool kit consists of a LM TTi and a Lapplander, so I'm looking for a sturdy all-around utility blade (preferably in good carbon steel) to complement these. MOLLE attachment options would be a plus, although a secondary consideration.

Ok... Just read Micky's reply. So Micky, if it were your life that was at stake, would you go for the M95 or the SRK?

Ohh tough one do I be honest or go with the money :D

Oh well I'm a man of integrity ::), so I'd plump for the SRK as I've had mine for 15+ years and it's served me well no matter what abuse I through at it :) It is however an old Carbon V one, not the newer, weaker AUS8 one :)

The M95 is Carbon steel and totally trust worthy in my opinion, and would make a better field knife :), as the grind on the SRK is very steep, and makes any kind of fine task a bit of a chore :-\

So for Survival I'd plump for the SRK :)

For Bushcraft, field tasks, I'd go for the M95 :)

Hope this helps mate :)

so u got fed up with m95?

oh well, thats sad.but guys if youre lookin for sturdy all-around heavy duty knife, not any fancy whittling tool,m95 is bulletproof tool for most tasks in the woods, from chopping/batoning,to poking icy earth.

heres one shot more of the knife Mikes sellin.
not the same actually, mine doesnt have gold plated finnish lion on it.
