I've posted the side-by-side comparison here

Below is how I carry my Vic set : it is very flat and compact so I accept the missing features (I do carry the full Facom R.pico or R.nano set in the car trunk )

Oh boy, just ordered my first multitool.

I went for the Swisstool Spirit X Plus Ratchet set with Nylon sheath.

Will be delivered on Tuesday if all goes well  :ahhh

Thanks for your advise all. It was a battle between the spirit x and leatherman wave plus. Hope I made a good decision although I do think both tools are a solid choice.

It is a 5.11 LV6 first generation in dark blue (called "night watch" by 5.11) with some slight modifications : I added a handle and made Velcro modules to go inside
It is my perfect handbag, previously I had a maxpedition CAP and then a vanquest 6x9 (maybe?), But the LV6 form factor is better for urban carry

Having both, the spirit is more "dense", no one hand opening of blades (not true anymore with some variants), but all tools being available closed is nice... It also carries some gentleman feeling the wave doesn't.
Modding wise the wave is a much better platform

Yeah if I worked with it everyday multiple times I would probably go for a leatherman. But I love the tools on this one and I wont use it everyday so the one hand openings are not important for me.

You can also get Spirit MX with one hand opening blade, if it's very important for you.

The big plus for Spirit is: outside opening tools, quality with absolutely zero play on ALL tools, awl, narrow-long-flat screwdriver, long-phillips screwdriver, chisel, wire stripper and scraper,

which are not in the Leatherman Wave, except maybe wire stripper, but it does not work as good as on the Spirit.

Got it in the mail today and wow! What a great piece, I never held a multitool in my hands but I am really impressed.

There is a little bit of damage on the pliers, should I accept this or return it?

What would you do?

What do you mean with a hit?

It looks like a defect, it should be smooth right? Looks like some super ant took a bite out of it lol.

Send those pictures to Victorinox aftersales service, they should be able to tell you if that is just "cosmetics" or not
But honestly if you bought it online, I would return it (also depends on what you want to do with the tool : beat the heck out of it? keep it, shelf queen? return it)

Hmm, decided to return it. They will send another piece if its still available.

Im not a heavy user,  but I paid €210,00 for the set. I think I can demand a tool without any damage.

Fair Enough, Berg, Although it probably wasn't anything to worry about, you definitely don't expect to see that on a brand new tool.

I've said plenty of times elsewhere on here that I always thought I'd get a Wave to upgrade from the Juice XE6, but got a Surge through work. After buying a Spirit X I see no need for the Wave. The Spirit X is my at home weekend use tool, but I'd be happy carrying one all day everyday.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with it when you get your replacement  :salute:

I just wanted to chime in about Vic customer service. I had an issue with the scissors on a previous Spirit and they replaced it with a new Spirit no questions asked.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

The plus is out of stock  :-\

I orderd the Swisstool Spirit X without ratchet now. With the money saved I will buy a Victorinox Minichamp Alox.

I can always upgrade with ratchet as its a stand-alone tool anyway.

You mean Victorinox Ratchet ?
And where can I get it ?
I found only Victorinox SwissTool Bit, Bit Wrench and Nylon Belt Pouch Set from the Swiss Knife Shop, which is sold out of course.

Still very happy with my decision!

I just enjoy open and close the tools once in a while haha.

But you guys could have warned me about the Victorinox...
You never told me this could be addicting, I also own an Explorer and 2 SwissChamps now!

 :iagree:

Came across a post I made in 2014 or 2015 talking about how these Vic tools are an addiction and how I had like two or three of em.

Please don’t ask me how many I own now and definitely don’t tell my wife!

G'Day,

I finally capitulated and got a Spirit MX. First one arrived on Friday. Opened the parcel, got the tool out but was sorely disappointed. The blade side pliers pivot was so tight that the Mrs could not open the tool. All the other tools were good. I contacted the warranty peoples in Sydney and they replaced the tool on Monday. I got the replacement today and ALL IS GOOD. I would like to thank Sheldon and Hammond for the excellent service.

This is a very nice version of the Spirit. I'm a lefty, but can open and close the blade easily. Years of right hand indoctrination has trained the right hand well!!! I would prefer to have a leather pouch, but will use the nylon one to see how it holds up and how I like it. The blade is a few mm's shorter, but that will not be a problem. I have a week off work and will use it extensively.

Cheers, Pete

What an exciting read about Bergs first MT.  I can assure you even with daily carry and use at work my Spirit still looks good.  You can see the fine scratches but let me tell you in hand it still is very shiny.  I cannot recall how long I've been carrying mine but at minimum is 5 years.  Its my work tool and gets used every single day.  I rarely do much to it in terms of cleaning anymore.  I use it and put back into its sheath.  The velcro is weak now but the sheath is great over all, its 4.0822N1

The scissors are nothing like what we know and love on our SAKs but I've come to accept them as they are.  Love the butter blade.  Love the chisel.  There isn't a tool I don't love actually.  I have the L wrench but I also carry a Surge so I use its bits.
