Criminy! If the head is just held on by Chicago screws, why didn't SOG just sell replacement Powercut heads? Problem solved...  ???

Would these heads go in there?

Wow.
Okay, I'm putting my project on hold and ordering one of those first. That looks like it would be a heck of a lot better cutter head to start off with than the Ace brand cutter will be.

With the Ace cutters:
  • the handles will need to be cut off obviously
  • the handle stubs are not wide enough for the SOG pivot bolts, so I planned on heating the metal up and blacksmithing it wider
  • need to drill holes through for the pivot bolts
  • the entire cutter head is mush thicker than the SOG plier head. In order to fit properly about 1/8" (3mm) would need to be surface ground off both faces of the head

All of that could have been done, and may still need to be, but I'll check out the SaberTooth cutter head first. :)

From memory, I don't think they will work, but aren't there separate heads available for some Gerber models?

There are indeed, but those Gerber heads pretty much only fit a Gerber. :-\

Is this going to be a "fixed" cutter head?

I can't see how the dia. cutter head will be able to turn inside out. :o

The SOG pliers never actually go inside out. They reach maximum opening when the handles are 180 degrees opposite each other, then begin to close down again.

But still, any cutter head used must be able to open as far as the SOG plier jaws do. :-\

go for it bob!
I bought the saber tooth tools
the cutter head is really thick. it will fit but there won't be room for the longer impliments like the knife. another problem is that although the head is thick the part with the holes for the screws is thinner than the sog so you will need some large spacers if you want to put it on a sog. I haven't looked at the size of the hole yet to determine if the sog screws will fit adequetly.

But it looks do-able eh? Great, I'll go ahead and order the Sabertooth tool. :salute:

I hadn't read your thread until now. I am not sure the plier opens wide as a sog. it is just wider than the charge. also the tool is to thick for the gears. I will try. if it doesn't work than a super bear jaws probably will.
