That is just freakin' awesome! Amazing job, J-sews!

I never really understood what the problem was that stopped SOG from releasing theirs. Now I am even more confused...  ???

Which model of cutter did you end up using?

I ended up using the one pictured in the first post of this thread :)

But it was far too thick to fit within the SOG handles, so after cutting off the excess handle length, I ground it down to proper thickness. It ended up being about 3/16" (4mm) thinner than it started. My biggest worry was that removing all this extra thickness would end up taking the "head" off the pivot pin, allowing the two halves of the cutter head to fall apart. Luckily that didn't happen though. :)

Then it was a matter of welding a blob of metal onto the end of each handle stub, shaping it to size, then drilling a hole through for the handle pivots.

An unexpected hurdle was the little rivets that go through the SOG handle gears. :-\ The dang things stick out the backside of the gears. I never noticed the slot SOG puts in their plier heads for clearance. I had to machine a slot through mine for the same reason:

Really the only shortcoming of this mod is that the cutting surfaces don't extend all the way down to the pivot. See in the picture below where there is a "hole" about where you would normally have hard wire cutters on a regular multitool? Its there because of how much extra thickness I had to remove to get the cutter head to fit. I actually ground all the way through at that point.

It couldn't be helped though. :-\ Still and all, it works great! And because the cutter is made of hard tool steel, it doesn't really need a hard wire notch anyhow. :)

First up, that is a superb mod!

But what a lot of effort required  :ahhh

When I first saw you'd managed it I was thinking cool, perhaps I can make one as well.  Then I read on :(

Enjoy your very cool new tool Bob.  Us mortals will just have to wait for SOG to pull their finger out.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Yah, the equipment I've got access to is not the sort everyone has set up in their back shed. :(

The biggest obstacle for most folks would be getting the thickness of the cutter head down to size. Multitools tend to have much thinner heads than regular pliers. If we could find a head of the proper thickness to begin with, the whole mod would be a lot simpler. :-\
