Skeletool (CX?) + Bit Set + Micra
on: March 12, 2009, 04:30:18 AM
Hey all! I'm new around these parts and I just signed up.

Anyhow... I lost a Swisstool Spirit not too long ago that was given to me as a gift :(. I've pretty much always carried a full size leatherman and now that it's gone and not coming back I feel naked. So I've been looking around for a replacement and have been thinking the Skeletool (CX maybe) would be a pretty decent tool combined with the bit set, as I always have my Micra with me for when I need scissors (who knows how long I could last without that).

Just curious what that wise minds around here think about that set-up...

BTW, I feel that I'm going to be joining the ranks of the collectors around here eventually.... good to meet you all!

Thanks,
Sean

Welcome and I am sure you will find that setup very useful but if you can stand the extra weight  (not much) but maybe try a Wave?

Only you know what tools you need on the average day, so let that be your guideline.

I think the main questions you have to ask yourself with the Skeletool are whether you are ok with the LM bits, and whether you will be ok without a wood saw, metal file, or scissors.

If so, it should be a great choice.

Welcome.

Just out of interest - why have you decided not to buy another Spirit? I'm just curious about what benefit a Skeletool would ring in comparison. Is it the weight?
I used to come here a lot.

If you are used to the excellence of a Spirit, it may be difficult switching to anything else. :-\
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I'm not too interested in getting another Spirit. I work in telecom/electrical, (used to be field, I just recently got the desk job) and the Spirit hard cutters in the pliers were not up to the task of cutting some 12 AWG wire for some alarms for some rectifiers I was putting in. I had to file the cutters back cause I did a good number on them. With my previous Wave (I'm guessing it was the older model cause it was quite a while ago, I never had an issue. Weight is not too much of an issue, and I am looking at picking up a Charge TTi to have a true 'multi-tool'

But anyhow I picked up the Skeletool CX yesterday, was even able to get the price down by $15. What a sweet little tool this thing is. I'll take a pic or two of my growing collection, so I have a reference as to where I started from.

The 300 Leathermen at Thermopolye:"Here we remain, obedient to our word" ::)
"Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall;
Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none:
And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169

I'd rather go with Gangs of New York... or Oregon for that account... :) "This is a night for Leathermen"... ::)
