i bought my swisstool way back in 1998.
used it for everything, cutting bread and reparing my old volkswagen beetle for years!
last year it realy gave up, one side didnt lock anymore, serated knife wasn't serated anymore, pliers couldn't cut anymore and screwdrivers were blunt...

so i bought myself a leatherman charge.
nope, not my knife, way to much play in al the movements..
so i bought myself a leatherman mut.
tried it for almost a year...
nope. i like the one hand opening of the knifebut its to big, hasn't got the tools i want ( once used to a strong crate opener and a file and you don't want to lose it anymore...)

so i brought my old, dying swisstool to the dealer and he would sent it to switserland.
almost two months later he calls me.
tool is back!
EVERYTHING is new!!
plier, knifes, screwdrivers, everything!
the only thing the did not renew was the outside of the handles so i still can  see it'my old tool!
i'll never gone switsch again, that's for sure!
 :climber:
Great story! I'm glad you have a tool that works so well for you.

I'm in :). I've been curious about the Swisstool for a long time, and finally pulled the trigger.  I don't regret it.  It's a bit bulky/heavy for a light user like me, but it's a great MT, and I am coping with the weight just fine.

About time you entered this club mate  :tu:.

The Swisstool is a strange tool, the Spirit beats it in size, weight, tool loadout, functionality of its tools ... and still I carry my Swisstool more than my Spirit  ::).  I've said it before, the Swisstool is the only tool that gives me the same feeling I had when I held my very first multitool (my original Supertool) in my hands for the first time, it just makes me ... happy  :D.

It's also the only tool that can compete with a Gerber Multiplier (or other Gerbers and the Leatherman OHT) in a game of "which tool is the most fun to open".  I just love how the handles have that 90° stop when you open them (and the sound that it makes when you open it), and then there's that sweet "click" when you close the tool ...  :dd:

And last but not least, it's almost impossible to take a bad picture of a Swisstool, no matter what side you look at it, it always looks awesome  :sa:.

I agree Eric.  The Swisstool is just plain fun to play with.  Like you said, the Spirit seems to be a bit better, especially for someone like me, but I seem to like the ST better.  I do like the straight lines of it, and the ruler.

My SwissTool has never been used.  I'm just afraid to scratch up such a beautiful piece of workmanship.

I use mine like..... well, like a favorite tool.  I'm not sure you can damage the finish on these things.

After getting tired from the bad leatherman"s I received that time I went to buy a Swisstool x and absolutely love it.
It has one of the best tools in it and is extremely strong, besides that it still is precise as a Swiss watch.
Absolutely used the crap out of that MT and it never gave up and saved me in allot of situations.
I think the Swisstool is the tool that comes the closest to dedicated tools due to its strong tools and heavy pliers.
I have no bad things to say about the Swisstool, it is currently in for warranty because the knife and screw driver clumped together sometimes.(I know leathermans always do that but it just irritated me because the rest of the tools worked flawless.
It's like owning a rolls Royce and have the steering wheel squeak every time you steer to the right)
After I send it in I was looking for another tool and would like to buy the spirit x. But I went with the leatherman but I wanted to give them a 3th chance and bought a wave.
Only gripe is that the plier has more play than other MT s although this does not hinder its function.
I will post again if it is back from warranty. I trust Victorinox they will do a good job on it. They also paid the shipping to and from Switzerland, that costs 70 euros alone and the tool costed 120. That gives the impression that they do stand behind their product.
Don't have any good picture at the moment.
But it has been used and abused.

Let's hear about when and where you got your Swisstool and why you like it. and how about some shots of it and of it getting put to work?

I got mine off a member here in a trade. I'm hefting it around in a Surge leather sheath. >:D Fits rather well in it.

more shots later

Victorinox multitools are my favourites...Really awesome..
If I need to pick some good EDC tools.
Then I would take my love leatherman multi tool wave and a flash light. Other are just a waste !!!

I don't own a Swisstool but these things are really a work of art.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

My swiss tool was the first really nice multi tool I owned. I bought it probably like '96 (could that be right?). It was one of the original ones. It has chugged along all that time. Recently, one of my kids bogarted it, though they still live in the house, and is hiding it from me, lol. I guess he likes it!

I just joined. I work for a printer company and the leatherman surge is not very professional or belt friendly in an office environment. Pretty stoked about it. The swisstool spirit feels broken in right out of the box unlike the surge.

Nice one, a really capable and beautiful tool. If I have anything in a belt pouch nowadays, which is not often, it's my Spirit.  :tu:

OK... I now feel eligible... with both a SwissTool Spirit X and SwissTool RS.

The SwissTool RS arrived today. It's beautiful, like (almost) everything that comes from Victorinox. I like having the ruler, rescue blade and better scissors on the RS compared to the Spirit X. Ideally I would like the knife to be bigger, along with a more heavy duty screwdriver/bottle opener combo (like seen in the liner lock 111mm range) and perhaps another tool rather than the abundance of tools that can be used flathead screwdrivers. The SwissTool RS is likely to be an EDC at times.

I also have a Leatherman Wave. I like the one handed opening functions of the Wave, along with a larger straight edge knife that appears tougher and stronger. That's where the benefits end. The quality, precision and feel of the Victorinox offerings make the Leatherman feel like a cheap ripoff. I find the tools overall to be better in the Victorinox, and they are all accessed externally. The Leatherman also already has rust spots despite not being used around water or near marine environments.
