Spirit owners club
« on: March 08, 2009, 01:22:35 PM »
I've done a couple of threads in the past about the Swisstool so I thought I'd start one about the Spirit . I will try and include as many facts as I can and as the thread grows then perhaps you guys may be able to add to it and any gaps we can ask Victorinox direct for info .

There are three main models in the Spirit range , these are

Std with scissors and blunt tip wavy edge blade ( butter knife as we've come to call it )   Model number  3.0227.   ( U.S 53800 )

S model with plain edge blade instead of scissors . Model number 3.0223. ( U.S 53809 )

New model with plain edge blade instead of blunt tipped wavy edge blade .Model number 3.0224 (U.S. Model #53814 Designated the Spirit X )

The 'S' model also comes in black finish with a model number of 3.0223.3 ( U.S 53815 ) . I'm not 100% certain but I think the last number ( 3 ) designates black finish .

There is also another Spirit Virsion of the X model thats issued to the Swiss Army .It has a Black oxide finish and while it has the same tools as the "X" ( scissors and plain blade ) it has blasting cap crimpers in the plier jaws . Model Number is 3.0224.3cch

An L (leather )  or N ( Nylon ) will also dictate what sheath it comes with i.e 3.0223.L would be a Spirit 'S' in a Leather sheath .

Quite why the U.S has to have a different set of model numbers to the rest of the world escapes me

Heres an example of the two different model numbers

Spirit compared size wise to other multis .... pst , Blast and original Swisstool

Difference in blade config between std ( on left ) and a 'S' model ( on right )

Now this is interesting , the Spirits jaws open wider then the 05 pliers on a Swisstool but the handles are closer together making it much easier to hold

last up heres a couple of the Spirit in the hand to give those of you who are thinking about getting one an idea of the size .

Nice shots.

My biggest complaint about the Spirit is actually the SHAPE of the sheath.  It is quite square and box-like which means it catches on everything.  It became such a bother, that I don't EDC it much.  I gotta find a better sheath for me.

Cant say I'm impressed by the stock sheath either . I made a dangler sheath for mine , or I just coopt a suitable mag pouch when needed .

Dunc,
I have a Stainless Steel Spirit S model with the same blades as your black finished model you have shown purchased from Tim(felinevet) a year  ... or so ago. My model number is 3.0223.L (53809).

Very comfortable to use and with good tool options.

I have it in my bag that I take to work with me, not that big of place so it's always nearby. Occassionally I carry it in my back pocket. I also have a SwissTool RS in my pickup and I leave an LM Blast at work just in case I forget my bag. :D

If you're asking if model 3.0224 comes in stainless finish, that's the only finish it comes in atm. :-\
