So this winter we had a total of almost 3ft of snow. The last several weeks all that snow plus a couple inches of rain has melted off and our basement took the brunt of that elevated water table.  To combat the standing water I had to get a submersible pump and find a way to drain it. 

I took a broken expandable house and cut it to length and removed the cloth housing with the Spirt scissors.  This allowed me to fit the water to temporarily drain into the washing machine discharge tube. As we all know, these snips cut through rubber no problem.

I guess I need to install a sump pump!

With all this melt our neighbor called saying she had water in her basement and heard rushing water. It sounded like her sump wasn’t draining so I went to take a look.  Thankfully, the discharge PVC has just come uncoupled.  I used my Spirit to remove a cover plate and reattach the hose clamp.  But, I also found the flipper special outlet for her sump. An uncovered outlet right next to the sump discharge and it was soaked! I had to remove that outlet and install a GFCI out of the splash zone. Now she’s up to code and safe.

I wish I had taken pics and logged all the use this Spirt has gotten over the last several months.  It has definitely taken a beating.  I bought it used but it was like new. 

The Phillips is starting to wear down. The file has some significant wear it’s much less aggressive than my backup Spirit.  I’ve resharpened the chisel tip, wire scraper, and blade serrations a dozen or so times. The saw is still wicked sharp but I can tell it requires more force to get as clean of a cut.  The flat heads especially on the cap lifter tool are rounding off. The snips still work well but there’s some play in blades.  The pliers are really worn down. Surprisingly I haven’t really dulled the cutters and the hard wire cutters have snipped countless finishing nails and copper wire.

This tools is such a beast.  I am however wondering if Vic should take a note from Leatherman and make the plier teeth a tad more aggressive.

Ok, one more from today. Crimped the thread on these aluminum fly wheel covers on my kids fishing poll. I had to unscrew it to snip and re-line a tangled mess and it just wouldn’t rethread.
