The blade shape is really nice, you have a nice flat bit to make a small cut with, then the large serrated edge shreds.

You have a lovely progression of cutting

I feel really lucky to have an XC

I reasoned that if I have a serrated two handed blade in my MT, it would complement a pocketknife better

It's a shame they dont make butter blade spirits anymore

I sort of followed the same logic!

When I decided I was going to treat myself to a Victorinox Tool, I selected the Spirit, and knew I should get the model with scissors.  And, then was made aware of two different models that each had a different blade.

I chose the BUTTERBLADE, serrated, because, any SAK I had that had a serrated blade, I had yet to sharpen one. Snd, on my LM tools the SE did the heavy cutting anyways.

A few years later, I learned the other model was being discontinued, I then search out one and acquired it.  Both are works of ART.

Just a year or so ago, decided a BO spirit would be cool as I think I slid into collecting mode.   My hunt introduced me to the MXBS model!!!
One hand blade access.
Both a PE and a SE (emergency blade)
Awl implements accessibility from outside the handle.
And a Black Oxide finish. More like BLACK STAINLESS!

Added a clip and it is part of my daily carry in a shoulder bag.

But, my LM are yet my main hd tools. 😉
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Originally, the butter blade version was just the Spirit.  The "XC" designation didn't come until many years later.

According to SAKWiki, at the time the Spirit became the Spirit XC, the Spirit S (two blades) became just the Spirit, to further confuse matters...

https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Spirit

I checked SAKWiki too for exactly that clarification and left it out of my response  thanks for adding that GM.  I always thought it was interesting the original Spirit had the serrated blade instead of the standard SAK blade. Made it a good companion with your typical plain edge SAK.

I just checked the Bay and there’s a few butter blade spirits for decent prices Vadim if you’re interested to look.

For any future spirit XC users, I found that the leatherman signal's sharpening stone does seem to work quite nicely on the serrated blade.

Sharpening it can be a bit trick to get the hang of, but it does seem to hold up well to hard use

 thanks Richard.  I use the worksharp guided field sharpener the ceramic rod is the correct size.  It hones the serrations well.

Somehow, despite having a lot of multitools to pick between, I am surprised at how often I end up carrying the Spirit with me over my arc or flex.

It really is a testament to Victorinox's designers that they managed to make a tool that is compact but also dense in features without compromising ergonomics, strength, utility, or functionality.

With the direction victorinox has taken recently with their swiss army knives, I hope they also implement a lot of customer feedback with their swisstools

The real testament to Victorinox Dedibners of the SPIRIT, is that the design they released in 2003 or so has stood the test of time with minimal revisions. And they resisted the temptation of releasing a new tool every couple years.

:iagree: for me it is the best multitool and when I try to carry something else, I realize other MTs don’t have a feature I rely on my Spirit. The only two additional tools that would make it better is a bit driver and both SE and PE blades.

I agree with you on the PE and SE, or even a longer combo blade like on the OHT.

That was my reasoning to buy a MXBS model, and maybe that beautiful black finish.

As for a bit driver, the LM bit kit adapter made for the REBAR, ST300 and similar models also fits perfectly on the PHILLIPS Driver on the the Spirit.

It comes with 5 flat bits(10 ends) and 1/4” bits fit as well.

Yea that is what I carry as well when I need a bit driver, I also carry around a leatherman ratcheting bit driver in addition to the bit adapter for some more serious work

Actually I think I am going to ditch my victorinox compact for the roxon flex mini companion.

It looks like a much more attractive package:

- One-handed opening, locking, blade

- Diamond file (something I miss from leathermans)

- 4mm locking bit driver (very compact solution)

- Giant awl (better for drilling into polycarbonate sheets IMO)

- Ruler and crosscut file (for measuring nut size and bolt lengths)

- Still has tweezers and toothpick

Report back or create a new thread detailing your experience when you get a chance to become familiar with the Dixon!  Sounds promising.

Or, as an alternative, instead of the adapter from the LM bit set made for the REBAR, ST300, use a Victorinox SwissTool bit set and bit wrench.

A little pricey, but you have a full set of 10 bits and a wrench.

The idea of having a full size screwdriver in the Multitool without bits, reduces the chances of losing any bits.

If carrying individual bits and attaching them to the tool is an idea (which is often inconvenient in a tight space), why not carry a separate bit set with a wrench?

In this case, you can use pliers to hold something and use the bit set with a wrench.

It is a pretty nice combo IMO, I always prefer having a dedicated screwdriver in my multitool and have a bit driver elsewhere as I find the ergonomics of using a multitool as a screwdriver to be suboptimal.

An even cheaper potential solution is to 3D print a bit driver for leatherman bits, and pair that with the galvanox slim bits.

A 3D printed bit driver might not be able to withstand the same torque, but it will easily handle most tasks that you would need a screwdriver for

But, do not forget the cost of the 3D printer and supplies and time to program.

Unless you have access to one with no additional cost.

Just saying.

From experience, it was just easier to walk to the truck, grab the correct dedicated tool from my tool box and walk back and do the tasks.

I recall one instant, two young employees were trying to drive a pin from a chain to remove a link or two shorten a chain on a gate operator.  Already wasted three hours before trying.   I sent one to the hardware store a mile away. Instructed him to ask for a chain break tool. Buy it and return.   I then showed how to use it and how to reconnect.   Total time after I arrived was 30 minutes. Would have been less if I just pulled the chain break from tool box, but then they would not have had a chance to learn something.

I did rethink my SAK Carry Habbits a bit and came to the conclusion that Swisstool + Bitset + Synergy X + Swisscard is too much for every day, also the Swisstool is 300 grams whit Bits and Ratchet,
So at first I did order an new Belt Pouch because I can’t find the Pouch anywhere that came with the Spirit, put all the stuff back in, and did attach an Carabiner (this Clip thing, not the Gun) , this way I can attach the Pouch to my Belt Loop if I really need it, otherwise it’s stay in my bagpack, ..
Your SAK is only fully yours, when it bites you, or you opend a Trink of your joice whit it
SAKs i have: Huntsman Light (Red Transparent), Workchamp (Black), Wenger EvoGrip S557 (Red), Swisschamp XLT (Red Transparent).. Swisschamp (Blue Transparent) Cybertool L (Blue Celidor (custom scales) , Huntsman (Black Celidor) , Victorinox EvoGrip S557 (Red, but sadly lost in my house somewhere) Victorinox Delemont S17 and S57 ..  , waiting for: Swiza D09 Blue

Because i did not use the Powerbank in my Retrohandheld Pocket the last Year, also not the Rollon USBC to USBC Cable and i have an Boox E-Book Tablet Thingy in the other Pocket i did decice yesterday to shovel the Bitset again in my EDC Pouch and Clip the Swisstool Spirit also again on my Pocket.. , i cant be whitouth 3 Victorinox Things in EDC ^^ The Beltpouch was a good idea, but its just too inpractical to hang it on the Beltloop.. and sometimes you need it and then you dont have it..
