What is your preference in sheaths?
« on: December 15, 2010, 02:47:21 PM »
As most of you know by now, I'm working with Bob at Pockits on at least one new design, and I know what the industry seems to prefer, but I thought I'd see what our folks like.

Here's an opportunity to have our say on what you'd like to see in a sheath- you can choose up to three options, and you can post any ideas you may have below.

I voted for black nylon. Black is better for the theater, and nylon lasts longer. One request, please no Velcro.

I prefer leather, since the only belts I wear are leather, so either black, tan, or brown leather suits me.  With that said, I also do like nylon sheaths to a certain extent; I also voted for kydex, simply because I've seen some extremely nice examples of kydex sheaths. :tu:

Urg, and now I want that one pocket sheath again. ._.

I agree with the Velcro  :tu: I'm not talking about maintaining radio silence before we move the troops in but sometimes I don't want to advertise to everyone 'Hey look at me, I'm taking something shiny and sharp from something black and tactical  :ahhh'

What about a magnetic closure? Perhaps it wouldn't be strong enough for a multitool

I voted brown/tan nylon.  Most of what I have is indeed black nylon, and like knife scales
and such I get tired of black!  :-\  Nothing too fancy or outlandish but a different colour
sheath is a welcome change IMHO.  :)

I'm a big fan of leather, brown/tan as a preference but black is OK.

If it has to be Nylon then I'd at least like to see a brown/tan option, I'm bored of almost everything being in black nylon.  Besides, colour options seem to have worked well for Maxpedition.

I might like to see something without Velcro as well, snap studs, clips, zips and buckles would all be nice options.

I prefer black nylon over all, but like leather too.

Definitely agree with the anti-velcro brigade :)

I am in the Police Force here in SA and I am only allowed black with my uniform. In civvies I may use another colour, but my choice is still black.

I think the 2 best looking sheaths are the Spirit brown leather sheath and the original brown leather wave sheath

I agree with the disdain for Velcro closures.    Make mine a metal snap -- the mark of a classier sheath.

Other considerations:

 - A leather sheath should be large enough to fit the tool/knife, but no larger.

 - Be sure the top of the closed sheath rides at belt height or below.   Higher riding sheaths poke me in the side and are uncomfortable  - a deal breaker.

 - The sheath should ride as close to the body as possible.  The further away from the the body, the heavier a sheath feels.  That's the reason I don't use my Nite-Ize multitool sheath with its 360 degree rotatable clip -- it places the tool too far away from the side of the body and tugs harder at my belt while walking.

Black Nylon,  Lots of Velcro,  Horizontal carry option,  elastic side pockets
