The "CoreClip" (pic heavy)
on: June 18, 2011, 09:42:47 PM
I carry a Wave on my belt, and keep a Core in my bag to grab for heaver work. Lately I've gone to a modular system with my new bag, and I picked up a Maxpedition Pocket EDC Organizer for my most used items. I wanted to keep my Core in it, but found that it's too large to put into the smaller elastic loops, and too heavy to just slip behind the large ones, making it fall to the bottom of the pouch.

I was thinking of picking up a suitable pocket clip and mounting it under one of the screws, but then I came across the Nite Ize eCLIPse, and it works great. Not only does it hold the tool securely in the organizer, but it works wonderfully for pocket use.

The CoreClip:

I'm going to post there soon, but it's still in a process of evolution, and I was hoping to get it down to a final form first.
But who knows, maybe I'll post tonight what it looks like currently, and share the process as I go along...

That size of that clip looks to be perfectly suited to the Core :)

It really is the right size for it - looks good.

I have used one on something and so far I really like them.

I think it will hold up well. We use the same type of double sided 3M tape for automotive moldings and accessories. When it's applied to a clean surface, and allowed to cure fully, only a scraper or solvent will get it off. I've seen people rip a crack in plastic body panels trying to pry it off.

It fits the Core really well, the thickness of the tape is perfect too. It allows the clip to overlap the screw head without touching. Would probably work great with the ST 300 as well. Almost like the designer had them in mind...

Just a quick update. The eCLIPse on the Core is holding up excellently, but I opened the other clip I had bought at the same time, to use on my ST300, and I found an issue. The foam core of the adhesive tape was quite "mushy", as if it had been exposed to solvent. The adhesive seems to still adhere quite well, but the foam is so soft that the clip pushes sideways easily.

Anyway, I sent a warranty request off to Nite Ize, I'll post an update when I hear from them.

From what I've read, they usually send out new adhesive strips.

I got the nicest email from Nite Ize today:

"Thank you for your interest in Nite Ize products in regards to the Eclipse. I’m very sorry that our product did not live up to your expectations. At Nite Ize, we pride ourselves in manufacturing high quality products that stand up to the rigors of everyday use.

Nite Ize will always stand behind our products if a customer experiences an issue or would like a replacement item under our warranty policy. Please note that the Nite Ize Eclipse is a discontinued product, and is no longer available on our website to purchase. However, we do have a limited supply in stock that I would be more than happy to send you per our warranty policy. With that said, I have placed an order on your behalf for a replacement Eclipse/Stainless and you should receive it within 1-2 weeks at the address you have provided below.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions or if I may be of assistance in any way. Your support is very much appreciated. Also, please visit our website frequently as we are continually making updates and adding innovative accessories to the Nite Ize line.

Again, thank you for choosing Nite Ize products."

I just realized that I never posted a followup to this  :-[

Right after I received that email from Nite Ize, I sent them this:

"That sounds great, thanks for the excellent support.

I had one quick question. Could you give me the 3M part number for the tape used on the eCLIPse? Just so I can get some for the future when I want to move my clips to different items.

Thanks
"

To which I received:

"You are very welcome and I am happy that we could send you a new Eclipse/Stainless, in regards to the product number for the adhesive tape, Unfortunately I do not have that as I believe we receive it from one another manufacturer.

However, what I can do is send you a couple of our 2-packs so that you can have them on hand when you may want to move your Eclipse to another item.

Again, thank you for contacting Nite Ize and have a good night.
"

About two weeks later I got a new eCLIPse, and the two packs of adhesive tape.  :tu:

Oh well, next iteration!
