one piece tool wanted - prybar + wrench
« on: December 28, 2011, 01:16:24 PM »
Ive recently become interested in getting a one piece tool having seen the Boker VOX access tool.

That has a few things on it I like, the overall shape, the prybar looks well designed, the small carabiner, but unfortunately it doesnt have the wrench that other one piece tools do. Also priced very nicely at £25.

I am not interested in screwdrivers, or can openers.

So is there a one piece tool, similarly reasonably priced (which would rule out the Atwoods) which has a prybar and wrench on it?

I was curious about the one piece tools as well, and have never used any.  I ordered a piranha to try, don't have it yet, but it does have the wrench + pry bar and the price wasn't crazy.

The piranha does have a lot going for it  :tu: thanks for the suggestion.

And it does like a reasonable sized tool as well.

Since I do not need the bit/screwdrivers, and try and avoid overlap if possible, any other suggestions?

I think i've answered my own question, although the answer is I believe an 'evil' one, the atwood rip off Navy tool:

Seems to fit the bill quite perfectly, and dirt cheap. Now just need to find out how well it performs.

Mr. Whippy did a review of it here:Atwood Prybaby vs the Navy 2001 Emergency prytool  . :)

I would suggest looking at the PocketToolX Piranha or the TTPocketTools Chopper or Keeper.  The Piranha is much larger and has both metric and standard wrenches.  The Chopper and Keeper are smaller and have just standard wrenches.

Regarding the Navy Tool:  I think it's a keychain bauble more than a real "rely-on" tool.  I don't think the hardening is quite right for real work.  For a few dollars more, I'd go with the Piranha or Chopper/Keeper options.  They are much tougher.

Thanks for the info Mr Whippy,

Are the TT tools available in the UK, can't seem to find them on any website...

The piranha, it seems like too big a tool for the keyring, am I right in thinking that? Otherwise looks pretty perfect.

Ah OK, so $31 inclusive of international shipping for the Keeper or Chopper.

Just found the Schrade one bit tool, which also looks quite good, bit more costly at around £25

And then there is also the Pocketwrench pocket wrench, which seems to just have the two functions I want, will need to find some reviews of that.

Only place I can find it in the UK is Rutlands, where it would cost £15, with an exorbitant £5 shipping, but even there it is out of stock.

No luck finding elsewhere, using google shopping, ebay and amazon.

Go to the pocketwrench website.  They ship to the UK (amongst the other UN listed countries on their shipping list).  It'll come up in the link above

One other thought:

I have a spare Element 115 (Atwood tool).  If that is of interest, maybe you have something worth trading for it...
