The Skinth BS (Backside) - Snowboarding/Skiing MT Sheath
« on: January 21, 2012, 11:06:05 PM »
Beerplumber is one lucky guy...being in town we often go for beer and come up with ridiculous ideas.

One of which isn't that ridiculous, a sheath for snowboarding.

Its smack dab in the middle of ski season here in Calgary and with no less than 5 groomed and skiiable mountains near by, BP often goes snowboard. I do not, I have better and more fun ways to 'waste' $250 :)

I digress, he wanted a sheath to carry his Swiss Spirit, a Wenger Shredder (yes a Wenger snowboarding too), lip chap and a lighter. All of those things would fit comfortably in a SkinthXL NO problem, however, it was the carry method we were stumped about.

Enter the SkinthBS (Backside)....Lets take a tour.

The SkinthBS is made from 1000D Cordura high vis (not flouro) orange.

This is the solution that we came up with, since when snowboarding you sit down a lot and plan your line, putting the SkinthBS on the side of his frontside foot (that's his left), strapped down to his boot he'll be able access all this goodies and tools. His snow pants cover it and prevent it from filling up with snow. I am going to call these the Thrasher Straps, a bonus of them being clipped and adjustable is that if he wants to wear it on his arm, he can. (I'll probably offer these straps as an option soon!)

BIG fat matching Solar Orange 550 Paracord matches the high vis orange colour and makes pulling the flaps open with gloves easy as a bunny hill. Also included is a T-hook for attaching lift tickets, which from my own experience flap noisily when attached to zipper pulls.

I don't own a Spirit so a ST300 will have to fill in, also the only Wenger I own is a Motorist, I believe it's 2 layers thicker than the Shredder.

There you go, ready to hit the slopes, prepped and stylish.

Love it.  I'll be a customer too when I find a few pennies under the couch cushions.

Lucky guy indeed! Guess I'll HAVE to hit the hill next weekend, y'know product testing and such... :)  Ski/snowboard gear is generally riddled with pockets but are often inconvenient when sitting. Falling onto stowed item is a painful experience as well. I'll still have a few things in pockets but must-haves will be in the "Backside" (coolest name ever!) and I won't dig through six pockets to find my shredder. I like the Vic Spirit sheathes normally but I don't trust the tiny patch of Velcro to keep my spirit in check when I'm cartwheeling down a mountain! Forever in debt to this guy! Thanks Eric!

The Skinth BS is out of my hands now, BP is going to field test this bad boy on the slopes this weekend.

I have high hopes! Probably going to fill it with some cheap stuff just in case of catastrophic failure this weekend. Looking forward to having a near empty jacket though. I'll take pics of course. Revelstoke here comes the skinth!

Enjoy the testing, it's been raining all day here, and there wasn't much snow to begin with.  :-[ Maybe I need to move.
