Axe(head) giveaway
on: November 23, 2012, 03:37:38 PM
I cannot throw useful things away. So i had to keep this Axe with a hammer face and Nail puller when i cleared a cellar room.

It was mounted the wrong side up on a rotten handle and is pretty rusty.

I did saw off the handle and planned on refurbishing the tool, but as i seldom use a hatchet/axe other tools and projects had a higher priority.
Now this Axe head is sitting on a shelf in my shop getting nowwhere.

Does anybody care enough to pay postage? It´s yours if you promise to post a pic of the finished tool.  :pok:

I´ll ship internationally as long as the law allows to do so.

That axe head should clean up nicely. It still has a good temper line. That pattern of axe head has not been made for many years if I remember correctly. Almost all the old axe manufacturers are long gone also.     :)

It arrived yesterday!   :mail:

both sides for your display pleasure

and into a container for an oil soak

Rem Oil of course!

i'll let it soak in a bit then i'll start gently getting some of that rust off.

Thanks again for the axehead lowtech!   :tu: :salute: :tu: :salute:

if anyone has some tips for restoration i'm all ears. This is my first axe resurrection.

Don’t really have any tips,
If it was mine I would hit it with a wire brush but not too much (made that mistake before   ::) )
and try not to sharpen it before you fit the new handle (make that mistake every time   ::) ::) )

That was a bit thin on the ground mate .... no recommendations on 115mm grinding discs, no flamability of favourite tee-shirts, no tips on the souce for the tanker deliveries of vinegar ...  :pok:

  :D :D :D

Pacu, ignore Sparky's humility ... he's the rustmaster round these parts, and I've actually got a couple of the axes he managed to resuscitate ;)

Psst Tony .... Pacu's started a fresh thread for this renovation  ;)

I was just trying to say don’t do too much to it, I’ve buggered things up before by not knowing when to stop with the power tools

Thanks Al  :D …… and I will go look for the new thread  :salute:

I missed the updates - I´m glad the head made it safely and will get the treatment it deserves.
