+1 Welcome to the forums timganev
One word of caution, though, the aluminium liners and little brass pin can't take much force :salute:
Yes I also think that aluminium liners are disadvantage and I will like to try steel liners next time...

Welcome aboard, Tim. This is an OUTSTANDING mod, even if you are limited to the amount of torq you can put on it. I hope you keep us updated on it as you use it.

Yes I also think that aluminium liners are disadvantage and I will like to try steel liners next time...

I was thinking something like alox, but more inox, using stainless scales/liner combo. As much as I love my Compact as is, this mod probably with the hook removed to make way for the bit holder's girth, would be a great EDC option.

... with the hook removed to make way...

Three easy mods:
Picture 1 - Transforming Victorinox Parcel Hook (I hate this thing :) ) into pry bar
Picture 2 - Putting edge on Wenger punch
Picture 3 – A 10 seconds mod -  transport small safety pin into the corkscrew

Using the Wenger system is a brilliant idea. - Will you actually use W TT or will you mod V TT to do it - I will have a  think and a check on that  :tu: :D

That is an interesting idea.  Gives the scales a cleaner look too.  It seems the Wenger toothpick and tweezers are still readily available as spares so it seems like a very viable option.  Do the Wenger ones require a cutout in the liner to accommodate the heads of the T&T?

They do need a slight cutout, less than 1mm although you have to be accurate with cutting the slots in the scales to make sure they don't catch on the blades. If you leave then slightly proud of the surface then they're a little easier to 'deploy'. Still waiting for the rounding cutter to arrive so when it does I can start on the next ones.

Greetings everyone. I am new in this forum. English is not my native language, please excuse me for any misspelling.
Few years ago I decided to buy SAK. I was looking for pocket friendly, 84mm, one layer and Victorinox Waiter seemed a good choice. I found that I rarely used the corkscrew and I start to think about modification.
I bought a second Waiter because I did not want to risk my favorite knife and this is the result:

Ya beat me to it....
I've been thinking for a while about adding a similar device to a Camper/Huntsman, although I was thinking of using the 4mm system (like the CyberTools) and adding it as a second back tool on the other side (so I can have the interchangable bits AND the corkscrew). Another advantage if you use the 4mm system is that you can cut slots in the scales and carry a few bits with you. The one thing I'm holding bck on so far is that I'd also like it to be useable in the flat position (so it can be used as a screwdriver rather than a T handle) but I still have to figure out how to have it extending out (and locking on place) to do this.

Personally, my 'Corkscrew mod' on the Waiter (also a favourite of mine) is to centralise it between the 2 scales which will smooth the lines out as the scales can then wrap around it (OK, finger cutout needed) but this will be with Yew wood scales, just a matter of finding 1/2 day to get everything in place to do it.

Yes, you! You've just not mastered it yet  :D

Seriously, give it a go.

So I did. Gave it a go, that is! Mastery will take some time.

Each scale is 4 ply of 1/32 thick aluminum.

That's an excellent idea to use multiple layers, I [was about to / wished to] do the same work with some brass sheets ( one to use as spacer and multiple layers for scales with cut-outs and each layer welded to the other)
Considering your result, I might give it a go!

My 7 year old son has been bugging me constantly to give him a SAK, since I have some unused donors and some leftover parts lying around, might as well make him one... Here it is,

I've started a pair of scales with aluminum and copper layers. But I find that the softness of the copper actually makes it harder to work with.  I think brass would be better.

It looks like a weld to me. My (not very well informed) guess is that any kind of weld should work fine but that a magnet might not survive.
I really like the mod and this seems like something Victorinox should do themselves and that could be a new answer to the Phillips or corkscrew debate. Well done!

Thank you!
Yes it was welded… I also was afraid for the magnet  and you can see it removed on the 4th picture...

Very cool idea! Nicely done, too!

 :salute: :tu:

You could try putting in the magnet and held it in place with some epoxy glue.

I guess this belongs here: My first mod: A bladeless Cybertraveller Lite of sorts.
It runs on 3 batteries, is made almost entirely of plastic and liners, and does not like to get wet or dirty.

Finally got the mini router bits through so here's the first production prototype. I don't know if I mentioned before but I got a big batch of these from the US (I think they were customs confiscations... hence nothing bladeless) - there were over 100 SDs in there so I need some outlet for them, and I have a large block of Yew so it seemed logical to enhance them (many have advertising on them as well, so I really need to change the scales). Surprisingly it seems like most of them have pretty much never been used, despite being somewhat scuffed...

The finish is Tung Oil (Danish oil basically) and the problem of how to stop the T&T falling out is a bit of a moot point - my problem is how to get them out easily as the slots are milled to such a tolerance they're actually a little stiff :( although I expect with use these will ease off a bit. To the gentleman who was asking about custom scales with T&T slots, Yes, I will be supplying these when I get the production sorted out so it runs a bit smoother, PM me for more details. Once I have the production sorted I see no reason that other materials can't be used - there are some very nice acrylics out there for the pen turning market that will quite nicely slice up to make scales... (I'm looking at some nice pearlescent green ones at the moment.. :)
