Multitool.org: 2014 MTO Challenge Coins!
on: October 02, 2014, 10:04:21 PM
My coins have arrived!

Huge thanks to Tofty for looking after this for us this year- he handled the whole thing, soup to nuts as my boss would say!  I have to say, they came out great!

First up is this little beauty designed by Raukodur:

I don't know what to say about this one other than it's simply stunning.

It's not a functional one, but that was the point with this one- it's just a coin, although to be honest, I'm not sure "coin" is an accurate description either.  It is actually quite nice, and an excellent coin sized piece of art!

This is an exceptionally beautiful piece- congratulations to Raukodur for the design!

Next up is Microbe's tool coin, which is also not really a coin, but that's ok- there's no point in being creative when you are confined to a box, now is there?

As you can see from the photo above, this one is much larger, but there's a reason for that- it is designed to hold on to the strap of a backpack, laptop bag or similar.  And, it does that well.  I'll have to try and get a picture of it shortly, but it actually does hold on really well and I have little fear of it going missing.

The lettering on this one came out quite beautifully, and since it can hold on to your EDC bag on it's own you are not likely to have to buy drinks for anyone!

Last but certainly not least is the Wild Card, also from Microbe.

Wild Card isn't the official name for this one, but since we had these made up like poker chips, it certainly does seem accurate!

I'm really impressed with this one- the design is beautiful indeed, but the decision to make it into a poker chip was a great idea, and I am really pleased with the result.  It doesn't feel cheesy, or like the black is going to wear off or anything.  It really is quite nice.

Once again I'd like to congratulate Raukodur and Microbe for their winning designs, thank everyone who participated and send a HUGE thanks to Tofty for making this all happen.  If you haven't gotten your set of 2014 Challenge Coins yet, all you have to do is follow THIS LINK to get any or all of the coins for yourself!

Great pics boss.

Looks like the Coin and chip combos have been sold out for now, don't know if Tofty will relist them.

So here are the links to the WHOLE SET.

And the Belt tool and Chip.

Many thanks for the kind words Def, none of this would have been possible without your support and Tofty's hard work to make it a reality, right from the first to last step  :salute:

That's what I plan for it.
With half a dozen small split rings and mini S-biners it will be the centre of my locking and unlocking world.

Are there any 2013 coins still around? Or will I have to get them through shapeways with a different finish?

I suggest we should standardize the pocker chip and produce one of same dimensions but different color and design every year.
Think about it seriously.

That is an excellent idea.  I really like the poker chip.

A pile of 50 MTO poker chips after half a century would be a very satisfying possession.
Think about the sound they would make and all the tricks we could do with them!
