So my new Wingman arrived allowing a closer inspection.  Not going to proceed with the mod for the following main reason, the tools are not held closed with a positive detent.  Maybe a groove could be ground and the spring leaf bent but the outcome is uncertain.   Changing this tool from an inside tool design to outside tools is not for me.

The cutters still don't meet (unless you have hands like zoidberg :pok:) so its going back for that reason. :(

Yes, I made two, one for the blade one for the clip.

You should at least try. It's about having some fun and a little problem solving. And in this case it is cheap.

Agree, it is cheaper than Lego's and more fun.

Ain't THAT the truth! Lego's are crazy expensive.

Also... Sidekick's are down to $18 at Home Depot!

Get'em while you can.

EDIT: Obviously, I prefer the Sidekick for this due to the plain edge blade, if for no other reason.

Nothing to shown really,  :-[ I used two Teflon washers, filed down the outside diameter by hand until them fit in where they need to go, then use an Alox farmer to bore out inside diameter until the pivot pole fits in. (Skeletool doesn't have an awl). Also under the scale there is a plastic spacer, I filed that down to make room for the longer blade, and added another washer to compensate the increased thickness of the blade.

Except in the UK Wingman is £30 and Sidekick £45 :ahhh.  Must be an expensive karibiner.    Too expensive to experiment with.  Who here would buy Sidekick at £45 when Rebar is available for £50?

I opened three cans with the can opener on my one-wing build. I have the can opener on the end with no retention other than the screw tightness, and it worked pretty well. The issue wasn't the tool folding so much as the fact that the can opener on the Wingman/Sidekick has a short cutting blade, so it's kind of slow, modded or not.

I also tried the small flathead driver on it today, and while it folded, it was while working on the faceplate of a light switch, so there was no force, and no damage. Not optimal, but acceptable. I'd rather the weak retention be on those tools instead of the main drivers.

Agreed! a Rebar is several times as good as a Sidekick, and at very little cost difference over here

I like what you have done but...my SAK has scissors  :pok: (and T&T)  :pok:  :pok:

If I want a larger blade (without T&T) I can carry my Soldiers knife.  OK it's a combi so yours trumps that. :salute:

I was pretty sure this had been done before by some of the modders here, as it's such a logical and straightforward way to finish up with by following the Mini-Surge mod. I am currently collecting bits for my own Mini-Surge mod, Wingman scissors being one of them.

This left me with a scissor-less Wingman, and since I am OCD and cannot stand Wingman pliers I decided to create a 'mini-tool folder' in a single Wingman handle.

What made this mod easier was the fact the top (pliers-end) and bottom (tools-end) pivot sizes on Wingman are the same size, allowing me to install the tools from a bottom of one handle into the top of the other, basically combining the Wingman's tool load into a single handle. To top it all off, I also added scissors from the Wave.

The result was quite surprising to me as it required very little modding while creating almost a perfect small 'MT-folder' as an end result.

The top tools fit snugly into the handle and the Wave scissors fold in perfectly. The only rule of thumb is to fold the bottom tools into the handle first, and top tools second, on top of the bottom tools. This is required as there's simply not enough space for the tools to fold independently inside the main handle cavity due to their length.

Few details:
- I used a Wingman handle housing a 420HC combo blade
- Bottom tools in that handle were left untouched
- Internal pliers stop strip had to be removed by breaking a rivet, to allow the installation of the tools at the top of the handle. This is a must.
- Phillips and flat head screwdrivers from the second handle were installed at the top of this handle
- Wave scissors added and installed in a particular position (see photos below) over the bottle/can opener for correct fit
- After extensive play with different sized washers and spacers (all sourced from Wingman's second handle) I ended up with this combo.
- All button screw heads flattened. As much as I like button heads their prominent bulge was a little out of place for me personally on this tool, they are much bigger than the ones on Wave/Charge/Surge.

My contribution - the Leatherman Bantam.

I like the look and feel of this mod, but I don't love the drivers, package opener, etc.  Besides, I encounter more beer bottles than loose screws.

I'd never realised they were that much! I've bought all of mine second hand, thankfully. I've spent about £55 total for 3.
