The Great Leatherman Parts Mystery.
on: February 04, 2015, 10:12:48 AM
A kind member here recently sent me some spare Wave parts.
I took a few pics showing the difference between them compared with a Charge I had handy.
The guide or rest for the Wave pliers head is much thicker and is part of the blade safety lock piece.

Group pic. Note the shape of the Wave tab spring.

The Wave tab spring looks the same, it's just not cut out and bent up.

Questions are, on your Wave or Charge, what part is the plier head rest on and what date is the handle?

Charge - tab spring - 0904
Charge - tab spring - 1007
Wave - blade safety - ?

Wave - plier rest on blade safety piece. Can't see any date on handle, anywhere else to look?

Okay so I'm a few years late...

To be precise, the stopping pins are sturdy and strong now. When the New Wave and the Charge models first came out in 2004, the stop pins were weak and prone to breakage. According to member Kwakster, who worked at an authorized Leatherman repair center, broken stop pins were one of the most frequent problems he encountered. In response to this, Leatherman re-designed the stop pins in 2008, making them much stronger.

You can see the difference in this photo. On top is the old style stop, date code 0807. Below is the new stop, date code 0808
