I need to clean the rust off a nice folder. How are you guys soaking the blades without immersing the whole knife and ruining it?

By tall glass, if you don't want it get into the joint.  Many SAK users will pop the cellidor out if they are old, and just soak the whole thing in.

Thanks. I guess I need to get a set of glasses for various blade lengths. This is kind of annoying. I have to remind myself never to let this happen again. First and last time!

you do not need many glasses/tumblers - just a tall one and just fill it to the required height

Ive got a rusty super tool with light rust in all the piviots (including plier rivet). Would a vinegar bath harm it?

I use vinegar and an aquarium pump with an airstone to de-rust garage sale flea/ market finds.

I dont see why it wouldn't just keep an eye on it and let it dwell long enough.  I've used PB Blaster and WD40 ( soak ) with good results.
