DAY 31

Woo-hoo! I get to carry my Surge tomorrow! It has been a challenge, but one that I have enjoyed. Used Powerlock to free Baby's high chair from a balloon while my little girl was napping.

Let the modding begin! Wanted to show of the Powerlock's new skin! I may have to start over due to only having one side from a former mod. But you get the idea. I also removed some metal where the knife would have locked. If I keep the area original, no blade modification is necessary. I would like to hear what everyone thinks good or bad. I am also planning on putting my P-540 head in the Powerlock frame as I'm not totally happy with the tool lock I fabricated. I'm not 100% sure if I can bring myself to sacrifice another Surge. I posted that I needed just some handles in one of the trade forums and I'm bidding on eBay to get a donor.

That actually looks a fair amount better than I thought it would. Looking foward to seeing how it goes!

That's amazing.  Sometimes it's not enough and you want the best of both worlds.

Thanks guys! I really just wanted the PT-540 head in a Surge frame, but I think this will work out well. I guess I just have to decide whether to reprofile a Surge blade and scissors and keep it with a skin on only one side or bite the bullet and kill another Surge. I know I would EDC it, but I don't know if I can bring myself to to do it. On the up side, I would have the 4 outside tools, better file, better scissors, wire strippers & crimpers (PT-540), compound leverage, larger internal space for more tools. Another option I have considered would be to remove the top portion of the PT-540 and attach it to the top of a ST-300 and the make a Surge skin for the ST 300. I assume This would add the extra length to the frame where I could avoid having to reprofile the PT-540 head I would get my outside opening tools and I could use Leatherman internal tools. By doing this, I would also get my 3D Phillips. But we all know what assuming does. I may just have to put things on hold until I can purchase a ST 300 and compare it to the Surge and PT-540. Thoughts and comments welcomed and appreciated. :salute:

The Supertool300 isnt any taller than a Surge, and is actually a bit wider. Just so you know.

I was thinking it was wider. Thanks for the info! Would a Mut long screwdriver fit inside if a bit driver were installed in a Supertool 300 with the blades, file, and saw removed?

No idea, I dont actually have one. I suspect it would fit if the bit driver was on one of  the far sides of the tool, but I have nothing to back that theory up.

That's magnificent.

Thanks Theo! So... In your opinion would it be worth sacrificing another Surge?

If it's not going to end up too thick, yes. Although I don't understand yet why you weren't able to get both sides of both handles to work off the one you've already cannibalised?

I removed the covers for that side in my first mod. It was not comfortable to hold.

Thanks! Nope. Not yet. There are some more pics on my Surge Badge Request Thread. Theo is hooking me up with some ST-300 tool locks! Should look a lot cleaner if it works out!
