My Gerbers.
on: March 20, 2016, 01:04:24 PM
Here is a newer set of photos showing my Gerber section.

First drawer has all of my older multipliers along with a nice selection of MP 600 and 400s.

The second drawer contains a heterogeneous mixture of Gerber offerings.

This drawer contains most of the butterfly opening Gerbers.

Despite my BG drawer, I am not a fan of Bear Grylls.

The next drawer contains the larger Gerber items. Found in their boxes are items like the Cabledawg, the Groundbreaker, and a few other items such as an OTIS kit and mini OTIS kit.

The next drawer down not only contains all of my older MT sheaths...but a Sapper Pac.

More info on the above item found here...

That is about if for the Gerber multi-tools in my possession. :salute:

Now that is a collection. :2tu: always have enjoyed scrolling through your post. Are those older multipliers polished?

Not really. If I had to choose, it would have to be the Gerber 650 Evolution Military Kit. I can more easily tell you which one I dislike the most. That honour would go to the Radius. I believe it is so terrible that at first, I didn't want to put it on display with all the others.

Nice Gerbers Chako and great pics of them :tu: I can never seem to get along with the Gerbers MTs  I may have to get a few different models to help broaden my opinion of them :D Am I correct in remembering that one of the Carolina Tools was the first in your collection?

That is quite correct. It was cheap and my father bought one to try out the sliding plier design.

Most impressive.

Could you recommend a butterfly-opening Gerber?
I have a lot of Leatherman tools, and a Spirit and SAKs, but no Gerbers. Except my two EABs.

I'm thinking of the Strata, it looks great from the photos I've seen.

I am not a big fan of the Strata, but that is because of a design flaw that allowed my inattentive self to almost puncture my palm by the little pair of scissors. With that said, there are plenty of folks that would tell you to get one...so do not let my not liking the Strata scare you off.

If you have your eyes set on a Strata, take a gander at the Bear Grylls version. They improved the tool somewhat by making the locking mechanism a lot more grippier than those found on the Strata.

On the other hand, I had a pretty bad experience with the BG version that I documented either in the "your latest Gerber" topic or elsewhere. Can't remember where exactly. I did get a major lemon though, like a really big, sour one. At that point, the Strata looked a lot better to me. Not to mention that it has the replaceable cutters in the pliers, which might be a good thing for those that cut a LOT of stuff. (I have no idea how they perform though)

But that's just my experience, like I said, I did get a particularly sour lemon this time.
The MP1 seems to be the best made one at this point, but it also has the least amount of tools...

The BG version looks ok, and it's less expensive. I'll have to check some reviews. Thanks.

That 's a bit expensive, I'll start with something else and maybe make my way up to higher end models. Thanks!

Go with the Strata IMO. A solid, underrated tool. I've used mine a ton, and have never encountered the issue Chako talks about.  :tu:  It also has the best Phillips driver Gerber's ever put on a tool.

You know, the issue I talk about would be such an easy fix. Just build a little stop to prevent the scissors from rotating outwards past the handle.

But then again, I could be special.  :D
