Sheath option.. Pretty cool
on: June 16, 2016, 10:24:47 PM
I discovered a shop on Etsy and have already ordered a sheath for my charge and will be ordering one for my next tool as well.. I thought y'all may be interested, seeing as a lot of people like me are not huge fans of the factory sheaths...

If anyone wants/asks me to I will post pictures of this with my charge in it, out of it, on belt, etc.. In this thread when it gets here.

I think he sells them under a a different name elsewhere or has changed the name of his company.

Might have received a 'friendly' letter from the Leatherman legal team...

What would he have done wrong? People make aftermarket sheaths for knives and sell them all the time

He was using the Leatherman name in his product name.

I doubt they care about the holsters, but the Trademarked name would be a concern.

I don't know that it actually happened, just putting out a thought.

Especially after:
I really hate to do this, but I don't have much choice.

Over a month ago I was approached by Justin at Leathermanholders.com about purchasing advertising here on the forum. I was intrigued by the product and I deducted the cost of two sheaths from the cost of the ad space for him, intending to review them and perhaps give one (or both) away to members.

His (discounted) paid month completed and I still have not received the sheaths.

I have sent Justin a couple of emails to let him know they never arrived, and he has never responded.  I cannot make a Paypal claim since I never "bought" the sheaths, but rather deducted their cost from the advertising fee.

The result is, he has screwed this forum out of money (not a lot, it's a principle thing here) and offered absolutely no customer service.

I would seriously warn any members thinking of purchasing from leathermanholders.com to look elsewhere, or at the very least, make sure they are protected by Paypal's policies.

He used to have the word "Leatherman" in the name. Though he could also be trying to distance himself from the poor feedback Grant gave him.

I would say it is the latter

Nice looking sheaths but I think after Grant's statement I wouldn't buy one from him :-\

That makes 2 of us  I ordered one earlier.   If it's a no show there's paypal protection to help, though I'm hoping I won't need it.

Agreed. Probably the more likely answer too.

If thats true, youd think it would be easier to just send Grants order by courier and fix his rep. Unless there are other unhappy customers out there as well.

Agreed.

However, if he had bothered to send the first ones with tracking (not expensive USA to Canada), he wouldn't have a rep problem. At least not here anyway.

I was one of the first around here to buy from him. He used my OG Wave to design the current holster for the OG Wave.

He was very good to deal with a few months ago, not sure why problems now?

The shipping info on mine hasn't changed since Friday. It's still showing in plainfield IL, and pre-shipment info sent to usps @ midnight 17 June 2016.

What tool did you order yours for? Mines for a surge.

I have one for the Wave.  I do not recommend it.  While it is well made and does everything it is supposed to do, the two downsides for me are these:  first, I cannot quickly and easily insert the MT into the holder, especially when it is riding at 4 o'clock on my belt.  I have a little trouble getting it lined up right, and sometimes/often it goes in at an angle and binds.  Maybe I'm just a knucklehead.  And second, the metal bumps into everything, and is not as forgiving as nylon or leather when you sit in a hardbacked chair and your MT whaps the chair.

It is good in theory, and I like Adam Savage's homemade version on Youtube.  It may work for some users.  But I prefer a basic Leatherman nylon sheath, which is fast to deploy and reinsert, and is soft on doorframes, chairs, and everything you bump into on a daily basis. And nylon costs about $10.
