MP400
on: June 28, 2016, 02:35:52 AM
Our kind Demel was gracious enough to post me an MP400 out of the goodness of his heart  Thanks once again Sir :salute:

I have had it since Friday evening and have had it in my pocket or in a sheath since that time :D

I have a few thoughts on it now so I figured I should share ;)

Few pics to get going :tu:

I have used the wire cutters the most so far and they have done there job well :tu:

I am liking this tool much better the the MP600 I have possibly due to it's smaller size :D I think this one may flick open and closed better as well ;) I liked flicking the MP600 open and closed but it isn't nearly as easy as this one is  I have used the scissors the most next and they have cut everything I have tried to cut with them so it is a pass on them

All the tools seem to be very good quality to me as well :tu: I am not crazy about the knife blade being a combo blade but it has a very good edge and the metal seems to be very good in it to me as well. I have not had trouble cutting anything with it either ;)  I have also carried the LM bit adapter with the MP400 as well because the Phillips on it fits the adapter rather well  I am liking this little fella quite a bit :D Here is a comparison to my Supertool 200 and the MP400 just to give a little relation to some of you about its size :D

All in all the MP400 seems like a solidly built tool and I am glad to have been able to get this one so I could try it out  I may not be totally converted to Gerber but this one will definitely see some pocket time :D

I am very pleased with it and have taken a way better liking to it vs. the MP600 for some reason  It is compact enough to pocket carry and not be to bulky and except for a file has most all the tools I like to have with me

Here is mine, done good service for 5 years -and still going-
It has a dent on the wire cutter though  it didn't like an [hardened] steel wire

Nice on the MP400.  I'll be pairing mine with a Swiss Champ - no need to add a file.  What other ideas are out there for a swap on these?

What i like about it is the excellent ratio toughness/size-weight

The Blade isn't the best tool of it, but the the combo edge is really welcome: it helps cutting things although the edge isn't razor sharp (but i would be happy to swap that blade with the saw blade the MP600bladeless has)

I think that will be the route I go as well  a capable SAK is  always a good companion :tu: I don't know about other tools for Gerber tool swaps though :-\

Mine wasn't razor sharp but it was very sharp and only tool a couple passes on a diamond stone to make it shaving sharp though :o I have never been a fan of the combo blade but it functions as it should so not complaints :D it is a very tough seeming tool though and I like the size of it as well

Looking good. It is definitely more compact than the specs show. Let the flicky conversion begin :viking:

I think the mp400 is my favorite gerber.  I have several of them two are the mp450 and two are the regular mp400.  I put a plain edge in my oldest model but have been thinking about put both a file and scissors and doing away with the blade since I have a knife I EDC.

My modified MP400 is definitely my "go to" Gerber.  Though I have to admit that I carry an original Multiplier in my shooting bag, so that's the one I actually carry most often.
