I've just been reading up on Hultafors new Outdoor OK4 knife.
Does anyone own one of these yet or have any practical experience of one?

I like the way it looks, and its price:)
And Hultafors does make good knives.

I've been looking at that, at that price it's almost disposable.

The dimensions are the same as the heavy duty knife, just a different handle, sheath and a coating on the blade.

I like the Hultafors knives, I wouldn't object to a £6 increase in cost to try something different. [CONTROVERSIAL] which is less than other Swedish knife makers charge for similar differences[/CONTROVERSIAL]

I'm looking forward to reading your opinion of it.
I think it could be a good challenger to the bushcraft black.

It just arrived :mail:

I have only had a quick look and fondle, so pics will have to wait.

I have to say one thing though. The belt loop solution is genius. Its so simple but yet so smart. I took one look at it, and thought: Doh! Why havent Mora or Hultafors made this earlier.
The sheath is just a standard sheath that has an elastic loop around it. But here is the brilliant part: in the belt loop they have fastened a button in wich the standard button hole in the sheath is firmly mounted. So the sheath is fastened both with the loop and the button, but can also be used with any other hultafors-, and probably many Mora-, sheaths as well.
Mora needs to make a similar arrangement for the classic no1!

Oddly enough mine arrived today as well, I agree about the elastic loop (with the firesteel holder). The handle is very grippy as well.  :tu:

They look like Moras. What's the difference with them? Are they half tang also?

I briefly had a Hultafors Heavy Duty before giving it to a friend.  Definitely an impressive knife for the money.  As for this one it looks like a good collection of features in a very reasonably priced package.  I'm not sure why they felt the need for the 2" ruler though.

4/5th's tang just by a quick test with a magnet, Mora heavy duty companion is a half tang. The blade thickness is the same on both.

The ridges on the Hultafors makes the handle very grippy, I'm going to give it a work out tomorrow.

So far I like it a lot, the 2" ruler is a complete waste of time, but the coating on the blade is very even and appears to be quite thick. The spine is sharp but the coating needs to be removed.

Initial impressions are I like it alot  :tu:

Edit, the handle is almost exactly the same size as the HD Companion, smaller than the heavy duty

A quick comparison to the Bushcraft Black:

The Buschraft Black (3,2mm) has a slightly thicker blade than the OK4.(3mm)
The Bushcraft black also has a blunter edge angle than the OK4. You really notice the difference between the edge angles when doing finer carving. The OK4 is definitly easier to use for that.

The Bushcraft Black has a sligtly sharper spine. Both throw sparks very well, but the BB has the upper hand here.

Both have very comfortable and grippy handles. The finger guard on the OK4 is a bit more in the way IMO. A combination of a slightly bigger fingerguard and shorter blade.

The Bushcraft Black is slightly easier to baton with because of the longer, thicker blade and the blunter grind.

You probably won't like it Tony as the handle is smaller than the Heavy Duty knife, May be too small for you meat hooks :salute:
