The Utility Knife.
on: August 02, 2016, 11:49:29 AM
I just like utility knives for some reason. I have always liked them for as far as I could remember. I guess there is something about just being able to abuse a blade and then simply exchanging it for another. My go to knife at home is a utility knife.

Here is my collection of such. Not all of them, as I do have a few more knives in other drawers, but the bulk of my little collection is shown here..

 Nice collection there. I also love utility knives. And the color schemes are always a good feature. One thing I haven't understood is why the big mt makers won't make a tool with a utility blade?

I have a few of them, too. A couple of large (regular?) sized ones (18mm) and a couple of small ones. I like the smaller ones for precision work. I have one from Teng Tools and recently found an older one, the same model as the second from the right on the second line on the second picture (Craftsman, right?).

Haven't had much luck in finding replacement blades for it, but I think I finally found a store that has them.

I have several utility blade knives as well and love that they might save my EDC blade from cutting certain things

Great pics as well Chako :tu:

Since I started work as an electrician in 1975 :ahhh I've tried out many different types of utility knife but I've always gone back to using my all time favourites.
Most electricians I've met also prefer these.
The good old fashioned Stanley.

Do you keep your collection over a column in your house Chako? I'm afraid there's danger of making a hole in your floor if you add a few more steel items. We use 1 ton safes in my job (for methafone etc) and the technicians always put them over a column of béton armé.

Not really a collection but my utility knives have evolved over the years.
The gray one was sometimes hard to find, so I went to yellow. You still had to have a screw driver to change blades, so now I have the Milwaukee zombie killer utility knife.

That's a start. I was thinking more of Leatherman replacing the main blade on a wave or a wingman for a utility blade. That still looks good. Their sold out and with shipping to US would be out of my price range

Very nice selection of utility knives! I have a small collection of early and unusual ones that I have acquired over the years. It's amazing the different lines of thought that prevailed. It will probably take a few posts so I'll try and name them as I go along.
First up is a folding scraper/knife by the Henry Hyde Co.
Next is a plastic model by Conrad that uses single edge razor blades.
Last is a double edged knife that has a fixed cutting edge and a two sided replaceable hook blade. It can also be used as a scraper.
