It's happening again
on: September 23, 2016, 06:10:57 PM
I don't know if anyone here remembers the floods of 2008 across eastern Iowa, but it seems to be happening all over again. The crest of the cedar river at Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2008 was 30 feet and change. The forecast is predicting a crest of 24.1 feet in downtown. We experience flooded roads at only about 16 or so feet. At this point it looks like a decent chunk of CR is underwater as of Monday. After 2008, most businesses struggled to recover, and some didn't come back. I fear that what businesses that did survive and are going back underwater this time are prepared for the floods this time, and end up coming back.

We just had 13 inches of rain in 24 hours in the northern part of the Twin cities.

Good luck to any Iowan's out there. Hopefully the local businesses and residents pull through ok.

All this will eventually drain into the Mississippi, and y'all know where it ends up washing away.

My home. Cajun country.

I have come to the conclusion that like myself, my beloved home is literally sinking into the mud of time and forgetfulness.

I wish all of you the best with your struggles against the rising waters.

I watched a program I had on DVD about the Katrina tragedy and what NOLA was doing to recover in the year afterward.

I am starting to wonder if as a whole, America has collectively unconsciously decided to allow NOLA and the surrounding areas to just be washed out into the gulf and get it overwith.

Prayers for all involved in flooded areas as well.

My family is fairly unaffected by the flood, but I still feel terrible for the homes and businesses downtown. I spent the last two days sandbagging and moving merchandise for a furniture store. In their showroom they are expecting about 9 feet of water.
