My strange new Pioneer X
on: February 07, 2017, 09:41:41 PM
Hi guys!

Having been a silent reader in these forums for some time now, I decided to register today and to show you the knife I found last weekend at a flea market  :climber: (<-- I love this icon btw  :D)
I'm not really a SAK collector, I only buy SAKs I know I'm going to use.
The Pioneer X wasn't on my wishlist since I usually prefer my SAKs a bit chunkier, but when I saw this specimen I couldn't resist. Especially for the price of 15€!  :o
Here in Germany a new silver Pioneer X costs 35-40€, a coloured one ~50€.
Here are some pics:

The peculiar thing about the knife is that it obviously was a blue Pioneer X and the previous owner seems to have sanded off the outer layer of aluminium oxide (except the bits in the ridges) and polished the scales to almost a mirror finish afterwards.
Since this model came out in 2016, I dont' think this is caused by normal wear and tear. It's much too shiny and smooth for that, anyway. I quite like the look!

My wife commented it looked more like a piece of jewellery then a SAK. I don't know about that, still looks plenty SAKy to me!  :D

The tools are in perfect condition. The blade still seems to have its factory edge.
I just don't get how someone would go to all that trouble and then sell the knife for a third of its original price  The lady selling it told me it was her son's and he didn't want it anymore...

Oh well, I'm not complaining   :tu:

Thanks guys
Sadly I've got the feeling the wife's got her eye on it. Her favourite colour is blue, too...
This is going to be a battle I'm destined to lose, I'm afraid.   ;)

It probably comes from schweizermesser-shop dot de...

Send it back and ask if you can swap it for a red one.... >:D

Actually, that rubbed down blue looks really great. Since there's no danger of scratching the perfect Alox surface (as it no longer exists) you will be more likely to use and abuse it instead of treating it like a museum piece.  Awesome find!

You might be onto something there. My current theory is that the previous owner wanted to get rid of their emblem on the backside, and once he was done he went 'What the heck, I'll do the rest too!'  :D
I never go soft on my SAKs. They all look like they've been to hell and back after a year.  >:D

Thats beautiful! It's like bluejeans denim.

I once saw a black alox minichamp sell fornmore money than a new one and itbwas very worn. But worn in a good way like that.
