Every once in awhile my original surge which I broke the jaws on would jam when closing the pliers back inside the handles.  I would just re-open them and then usually the second time around they would close up.  Wasn't quite sure what was causing them to bind but wasn't all that surprised.  There is a little pin on the bottom which might have had something to do with it which I guess keeps the plier head up off the bottom of the handle?
Anyhow, when Leatherman sent the new pliers in replacement I never encountered the same problem again and ended up trading them off for something lighter and much more carry friendly.
