Cheap and bright find
on: April 15, 2009, 02:01:07 AM
Last week I picked up a River Rock Nightfire 2AA flashlight from Target on clearance for $9.

Rated at 60 lumens, this light is so much brighter than my Minimag 2AA with an LCD kit, I gave away my Minimag.

No comparison.

How does that compare size-wise to the 2xAA Mag? It look smart enough, and for 9$ you can't really lose!
I used to come here a lot.

The Nightfire is maybe 1/2" longer and only a tiny bit thicker than the Minimag.  Both can easily fit in the glove box of my car.

Bargain :tu:

I can recommend the Romisen at DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3607 for those who can't get to a Target (like me), for a couple of bucks more it's a great little light.

What did you think overall of the River Rock as far as quality?  I saw them for the first time at Target the other day and didn't know what to make of them.  When I got home I did a few searches and came up dry on the name.

People seem to think they are rebadged Nuwai, not the best but decent quality.

Nuwai doesn't make lights they just rebrand them.

The RR Nightfire 2AA has more than a few fans over on CPF.

Has kind of a floody beam IIRC, which makes for a good task/utility light for close to medium distance applications.

At a reduced price of $9 these look like a really good buy.

I can light up my neighbor's barn from 120' away well enough to tell you it is painted brown.
