I bought a cheap, $3 Rayovac LED flashlight a while back. It was metallic red, and you supposedly had to twist the head to get it to come on. It worked for a while, then got really flaky. I thought the battery might be the problem, but even with a fresh one it was all-but impossible to twist on. Has anyone else had this problem with Rayovac flashlights or did I get a dud?
Sounds like you got a dud. ROV will replace it if you send it back to them, but it probably isn't worth the shipping and hassle for a 3 buck light.
I've had pretty good luck with ROV lights over a time frame of decades of using them. Their 2C and 2D Sportsman metal incan lights were my standard outdoor light for years.
ROV and Energizer both make servicable, low end, plastic 2D cell lights.
Thin plastic body tubes, plastic heads, plastic reflectors, slide switches on barrels. Maybe 20 lumens on fresh cells with a bit of throw to them.
ROV calls their basic 2D model "ValuBrite" IIRC and they are widely available for less than 2 bucks. These can be found in little corner stores, chain drug stores, and gas stations all across the US.
Plastic 2D lights are what most people think of when they hear the term "flashlight." They are the only light many people ever buy. Most homes have one or more of these plastic 2D lights stashed away in kitchen drawers, probably containing dead or leaking cells.
Actually these lights aren't too bad for the money and work fairly reliably so long as they are never dropped. Drop one of these even once and all bets are off.
