Skeletool at pawn shop?
on: May 26, 2009, 09:10:10 PM
So I have this local pawn shop. They have a used Skeletool for 20$. Is this a decent price? It is in pretty good condition. The two bits have some of the black worn off, but otherwise still nice. I think its the original model, the one with the carbiner clip.

I don't know much about these things. I own SAKs. And fake leathermans I abuse the hell out of in my portable tool bag. I suppose it could be handy to have a real, good one. ....or maybe trade for more SAKs....

$20 for a Skeletool is a great deal.  Do you remember if it had a serrated blade?  if so that's the CX version with the carbon fiber handle material and 154cm blade, which would make it an even better deal!

Where the hell do you people find these pawn shops? There are only two in town and they want more for stuff than brand new price.

Don't feel bad I used them to get rid of old EDC gear and some pay really well. Once I sold a used brass Zippo($18 new), used case knife($30 new) used maglite solitaire($5 new) used Gerber multitool(25 new), used 2AAA minimaglite($9 new) for $75 and a set of USA made stanley screwdrivers.

I bought it. Blasted thing has been taunting me there for two weeks... I'd say its in almost new condition. There is a little oil grease around the pliers, I think someone was using it on a car, and the edges of the bits have the black worn off, but are otherwise just fine. It still has the factory edge and has never been resharpened. If I wasn't at work, I'd post a pic. Its just the regular skeletool, no serrated blade. I like the lightness of the tool. Light, but solid.

Although, I was chatting with the owner and he showed me a Leatherman Wave that was about to go up for sale. He said the guy had three more days to buy it back before it went in the display case. It looked brand new and even had a nice sheath.

Ha. Burnsville, WV. Off the highway headed toward Glenville about a mile. A lil combination pawn shop, convience store (beer and hot dogs mostly), bait shop, and feed store. Their usually open pretty late, since the owner lives there. Its a pretty nice setup. He and his friends sit around and drink and occasionally sell something. I want to own such a place someday.

OH!!  A general store!!  There was one like that, when I lived in Florida, off Midway Road.  Pawnshop, hunting/fishing/camping, food, lottery, and the best $5.00 breakfast you'll ever have! ;)
