I go to Wichita Falls every August for the annual Hotter N Hell bicycle tour. 100 miles of hot pavement!  Fun times :D

Kwakster...if you go to Fort Worth def hit the zoo there. It's well worth it. One of the best zoos in the south.

Currently we're in Tyler, tomorrow i want to check out a knifeshop and an antique mall here to look for older knives.
A few days ago we visited a friend in Joshua, and he gave me a very nice present; an original Schrade 152 Sharpfinger from the 70' with 1095 carbon steel blade and sawcut Delrin handle with nicklesilver rivets.
It's in great shape, i had been looking for one for quite a while,

Soon we will be on our way to Davy Crockett National Park.

Having a really good time here in Texas, i think i could live here :)

It's 102 right now :-X

I'm in Houston    You get used to it after a while. Wear a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and go with it.

It's funny though..when it hits the 50s or 60s texans think they are in the North Pole all bundled up.

At the moment i'm on at bench just in front of the police station in Jefferson.
No problems, this spot happened to have a Wifispot so i could type this on my Ipod Touch.
This afternoon we visited a very old general store in Jonesville, a place even our GPS system could not find.
The store was used in several movies, for instance ' The long hot summer' featuring Don Johnson, Sybil Shepherd and Jason Robards in 1980 or somewhere around that year.
In the store we met store employee miss Syble, 87 years old and still working 5 days a week in the same place she started over 50 years ago.
Tomorrow at 10 AM we're going to do a tour on Caddo Lake with an old steamboat.

Typing this while on my bed in at Marriot hotel in Round Rock.
Just had a little swim in the indoor pool and now i'm waiting for my turn to hit the shower.

Yesterday we visited a Dutch couple near Buffalo who made the big step and emigrated to the US two-and-a-half years ago.
They created their own business out of nowhere by exporting American cars, bikes, and parts to the Netherlands, and it's already quite a success.
We spent one night in one of their classic Airstream caravans they also have for rent on their 12 acre property which they share with 3 horses, 3 donkey's, 4 dogs, and numerous chickens wandering freely.

In the morning we will be on our way to Austin,

Sorry for getting off topic here:

Have any of you guys been to that storefront in austin that sells TSA confiscated items and other state surplus?
What can you tell me about it?

The state has a warehouse here in fort worth that I believe has a storefront as well, I'm going to call them in the morning and what kind of stuff they have.

I looked on their websites (that are supposed to list inventory, etc) but all they listed was furniture so I was wondering if anyone had any luck finding a source for knives or multitools this way?

I mean, where do those people on ebay get all that crap!

I wonder, if it is possible for you to get that kind of stuff cheap or in bulk, whether somebody's brother/uncle is getting first pick.

I called the store here in fort worth and they don't deal in the TSA stuff anymore...the branch in austin does. the lady said they couldn't keep up with the volume.

I might have to find my way down there one of these days...hoping someone can tell me if it would be worth it.

Last friday we came home again, after a roughly nine hour flight from Bush International Airport in Houston to Schiphol, Amsterdam.
Still having a bit of a jetlag, but fit enough to sit behind my computer  :D

We had a really great time in Texas and both wished it could have been longer.
Sure it was quite hot during our stay, especially for a pair of Northeners like us, but since airconditioning is literally everywhere it didn't bother us to much.
Things that stood out for us where the amazing friendliness as well as generosity of the Texans themselves.
Not only was everyone we met very kind to us and interested in where we came from, in a few cases some even managed to pay for our dinner without us knowing it.
Amazing people.

The state itself turned out to be a wonderful journey, with lots of different landscapes and of course enormous distances to cover, especially for us since we come from a country which can, if need be, be explored on a bicycle.

When time and money permits us, we'll surely be back in Texas.

Bush International Airport is right behind my apartment complex. At any given time there are 6-10 planes coming in for landing..all stacked up.

Glad you enjoyed Texas Kwakster :D

It is after all the best state in the union :pok:  :D

You know what ?
Me & Ellen are back in Texas !

This time we're planning to see part of Louisiana as well.

We're already a week here to be precise, and are currently in a hotel in Hillsboro.
Tomorrow we will be visiting my friend in Joshua again, and after that who knows ?

:D
