What's in your Charge/Wave/SURGE sheath?
on: June 05, 2009, 12:37:56 AM
Hey guys, I have been carrying a Charge of some sort for quite some time now..  I usually carry it with a nylon sheath unless I'm wearing black slacks- then I use the leather sheath.. Anyways, I carry a plethora of things in the premium sheath.

I just emptied out my nylon Charge sheath and it contained:

Charge TTi
Serac S2 (PHENOMENAL)
Black Fisher space pen
1x bit card  (flat heads, philips heads, a few hex's, and a modified awl and chisel that a forum member made me)

This works out very well for me!

What bits do you have in your bit card, Dave?

BTW, any particular reason for carrying the S1 instead of the S2?

2nd question's easy - I don't have a Serac S2! The S1 fits beautifully though, so that's cool. I normally have an S3 with me, so the S1 is more of a backup really and never gets used. It's nice to know it's there though.

Bits? I sorted out the ones I need most often, so a combination of flat, phillips, pozi, torx, allen and hex. You never see the robertson type fitting here in the UK, so I dumped them etc. It works well - I can't remember last time I didn't have what I needed or at least something to improvise with.
I used to come here a lot.

Along with my Charge TTI I have 1X bit card, bit extender and a 4" adjustable wrench.

Along with my Surge I have 1 X bit card, 3 different saw blades, a Sharpie, bit extender and an Artifact in the front pocket. BTW, the nylon sheath has a front pocket, the leather does not.

The Charge set up is my regular EDC. The Surge kit is for heavy work times usually on weekends.

In my wave sheath I carry a LOD-CE and a bit extender with an extra phillips head bit. Fits all nicely in the sheath and is what I carry around most of my days.

On other days (about once a week) I have the skele cliped on my belt or pocket and the LOD just loose in my pocket. So no sheath with the skele. Oh I see, that was not the question  :D

This is my ever changing set up :)

LM Charge Ti
LM Wave Sheath (Don't like the big metal emblem on Charge Sheaths!)
Nitecore EZAA (for free :D)
Spare Eneloop Battery (Mainly not because of run time issues with EZAA but mainly because I don't have a nice Fisher Space Pen to go there, even though I would really like one...price)
LM Bit Card (not full because I haven't bought my self the full kit yet...should but haven't found a nice one for a good price)

Nice set up  :tu:

Is that nylon sheat larger than the standard leather sheat that comes with a wave? I'm thinking to put in such a LM bit card bit I thing that it will get a bit full and create extra tension that would not get the wave come out easy out of its sheat. What do you think?

I'm not quite sure. I only have nylon Wave sheaths. But I suspect them to be similar in size.

I don't think so. The LM bit kit is already large and with more bits it will not affect the dimensions of it to affect the tension it is adding to the sheath. The only thing you lose when adding more bits is extra weight (though its nothing with the bits).

I will try to fill up the card with some spare bits I have from my other Wave/Charge and see if I notice any difference for you :)

I'm toying with giving the sheath that came with my bit kit a go.  Just can't seem to find a set up that works for me yet.

Super, that's very kind of you  :tu:

I do not have a bit card at all but if its fits nice it would be a great addition to my wave  :) I'll start looking out for one, the more I think of it the more I want one, wether it fits or not  :D

My poor wallet..... ::)

The only thing besides my Wave in the leather sheath is my modded bit extender. I use the sheath that came with the bit kit to keep both cards in it. I find having both sheaths side by side a good setup.

Erm...there's a Charge TTi in my Charge sheathe. I've been toying with the idea of picking up one of those flat pocket-wrenches (McFeely's, I think it was?), but haven't gotten around to it. Aren't they something like 10 bucks?

So now I've got a Wave I guess I'd better get something to put in the side pockets  :D Am I right in thinking the Fisher Bullet space pen is the best pen to fit ? and what about a torch , which one is best ? Links and pics would be great if possible  :tu:

Thanks

Hey Dunc, yeah, I'd say a nice Fisher Bullet would be great. For a torch it depends on how much you want to spend. The best would be a Fenix LD01 or LOD Q4 or even an Arc AAA light. I have an LOD on the way ATM. A good alternative would be a Fenix E01, LM Serac S1, or a Streamlight Microstream. The Microstream is probably the best, IMO. It can be had for a good price and it's plenty bright! So, a Fisher Space Pen and a Streamlight Microstream would be a good match to your LM sheath. BTW, is your sheath nylon or leather?

You said you got a free bit kit right? Are you going to put one customized card in the sheath?

I personally think an AAA light is the best alternative. I think an AA light would be too wide...  :)

Yeh but you don't get two useless bits of  Titanium that slop about on their screw fixes and serve absolute no purpose whats so ever . Titanium on a Charge is eye candy and thats it . ( Sorry Dave  :( )

That may or may not be true, but my line of thinking wasn't anything to do with a Charge but more along the lines that for the cost of a wave they don't even throw in a few bloody bit's for the bit driver.  Seems a bit tight.

It makes a much more comfortable handle when using the knife and they're a lot more wear resistant!
